2005-06 OCAA MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR - PETER SNIUOLIS

Peter Sniuolis, a third-year setter on the Mohawk College men's volleyball team becomes the second Mohawk athlete to claim the OCAA athlete of the year award. Peter ended this year's season on a high note, leading the Mountaineers to their first OCAA men's volleyball title in 20 years and a fifth place finish at nationals.

En route to the championship he lead his team to an undefeated 13-0 league record. This season, he was named a CCAA athlete of the month, OCAA men's volleyball player of the year, CCAA all-Canadian, OCAA first-team all-star and OCAA championship all-star.

Peter demonstrates all of the characteristics and traits of a great setter; soft hands, athletic intelligence, opportunistic, a master strategist on the court and physical toughness. The epitome of Peter's development as an athlete shines through the fact that he had never played the setter position until he joined the team at Mohawk as a rookie three years ago.

"Peter has become one of the most feared and respected players in the OCAA and recognized as one of the best in the country," commented James Bradley, Mohawk men's volleyball head coach. "All from a guy who had never played the setter position before. Peter is one of the best and I am fortunate to coach such a dedicated, selfless athlete."
