Men's Athlete of the Week – Jonathan Costa, Sheridan Bruins Men's Indoor Soccer

Jonathan Costa of the Sheridan Bruins Men's Indoor Soccer team was named tournament MVP this past week at the 2010 Indoor Soccer Championships. In semi-final game #1 it was Costa who scored the only goal to advance to the gold medal game.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Tanya Beishuizen, Fanshawe Falcons Women's Indoor Soccer

Tanya Beishuizen of the Fanshawe Falcons Women's Indoor Soccer team was named tournament MVP at the 2010 Women's Indoor Soccer Championship. This is Fanshawe's second gold medal as they were the 2007-08 Champions as well.

Men's Athlete of the Week – J.R. Bailey, Humber Hawks Men's Basketball

J.R. Bailey stepped up his play at the CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship in Calgary and was named a first team championship tournament all-star. Bailey averaged 12.5 points per game and six rebounds, while leading his Humber Hawks to a national bronze medal.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Sam Scull, Sheridan Bruins Women's Basketball

Sam Scull had a stellar tournament at the CCAA women's basketball championship in Kelowna, British Columbia for the Sheridan Bruins. Averaging a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in each of her four games, Scull was named a first team championship tournament all-star. Even more impressive, Scull played half of the tournament from off the bench.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Terell Bramwell, Humber Hawks Men's Volleyball

Mississauga native Terrell Bramwell has had a stellar year for the Humber Hawks Men's Volleyball team. Along with being named a CCAA All-Canadian this past week, Bramwell was also selected as a member of the 2010 First-team CCAA Men's Volleyball Championship All-Star Team.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Landis Doyle, Humber Hawks Women's Volleyball

Landis Doyle of the Humber Hawk was selected to the 2010 CCAA Women's volleyball Championship All-Star Second Team. Doyle helped pace her Hawk teammates to a fifth place finish in Canada.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Daviau Rodney, Humber Hawks Men's Basketball

Daviau Rodney of the Humber Hawks saved his best performances of the season for the provincial championship run and did not disappoint the Humber faithful. In his quarter final game, Rodney posted a solid 15 points, even more impressive given the low scoring game from both side. In the following game, the 6'1 guard propelled the Hawks past their crosstown rivals Sheridan Bruins with 16 points. Saving the best for last, Rodney amped up the tempo scoring 20 point in the championship game and was named the tournaments MVP.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Hali Burns, Sheridan Bruins Women's Basketball

Hali Burns has capped off her collegiate career as a three-time OCAA Champions and will head back to the National Championship in Kelowna, B.C. in search of taking her team one step higher on the championship podium. The Sarnia native finished with an impressive shooting run that included games with nine points in the Quarter-final, 23 in the Semi-final and another 23 in the Championship game. Burns was also named the OCAA Championship MVP after leading her team on the title run. Earlier in the week, the fifth year player was named the OCAA Women's Player of the Year and an All-Canadian for the second time.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Terrel Bramwell, Humber Hawks Men's Volleyball

Mississauga native, Terrel Bramwell was named West Division Rookie of the year, West Division First Team All Star and OCAA Overall Rookie of the Year at the 2010 OCAA Men's Volleyball Awards Banquet in Ancaster this past week. Bramwell was also honoured with the CCAA All Canadian Award and the West Division and OCAA league scoring title as his 5.90 points per set average was ranked third best of all time. Bramwell was also named the OCAA Championship MVP.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Laura Bye, Humber Hawks Women's Volleyball

In a battle for top spot, outside hitter Laura Bye lead her team to a provincial championship title and a spot in the National Championship tournament. The Burlington native contributed 15 points, via 13 kills and two service aces against rival team the Nippissing Lakers and was later selected as the OCAA Championship's Most Valuable Player.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Charlie Lay, Humber Hawks Men's Badminton

Third year player, Charlie Lay was named the OCAA Men's Badminton Player of the Year this past weekend in Windsor. Lay and his new partner Mark Wong, could not repeat last year's gold medal effort, however, the pair still finished strong with a third place finish.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Renee Yip, Humber Hawks Women's Badminton

Rookie, Renee Yip was named the OCAA's Women's Player of the Year, dominating play as a freshman. Yip and her mixed doubles partner Raymond Wong, captured gold at the OCAA Championships in Windsor, winning the gold in straight sets and going a perfect 7-0 in the tournament.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Ryan Talsma, Redeemer Royals Men's Volleyball

Ryan Talsma rewrote the record books for kills in a career and has became the OCAA career leader in total points. The veteran, broke the records in impressive fashion by putting up a combined 47 points over his two last weekend games (20 vs Canadore, 27 vs Nipissing) and has expanded his total with a 3-0 defeat over the Mohawk Mountaineers where he added 11 kills, two aces and two blocks for an additional 15 total career points. His efforts bringing his career kill total to 716 and his point total to 895 with one game to go this season and another year of OCAA eligibility.

Men's Athlete of the Week – David Korenic, St. Clair Saints Men's Basketball

Fifth year guard David Korenic of St. Clair exploded for 48 points in his last home game leading the Saints to a 94-59 win over Sault. Korenic scored 24 in each half as he connected on eight from downtown in his farewell bid to the Saints crowd. Korenic also had solid efforts earlier in the week with 20 and 19 points efforts in losses to Fanshawe and Algoma.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Keriss VanAmersfoort, Niagara Knights Women's Volleyball

Keriss VanAmersfoort has a stellar week in women's volleyball for the Niagara Knights and a monster match versus one of the OCAA elite Mohawk Mountaineers this week. Van Amersfoort posted 19 kills, two aces and one block in the 3-2 loss and added 15 digs to here game total. The 6'1 third year player added another 6 points to her weekly total against Humber.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Nick Fadayel, Mohawk Mountaineers Men's Basketball

Nick Fadayel of the Mohawk Mountaineers men's basketball team played a remarkable game against the Sheridan Bruins. After three overtime periods, Fadayel managed to register 38 points on the game contributing towards the Mountaineers' 122-115 win over third place Sheridan. The 237 points also set a new OCAA record for total points in a game by two teams, erasing the mark of 233 set between George Brown and Humber January 9, 1974.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Landis Doyle, Humber Hawks Women's Volleyball

Humber Hawks middle and 2008-09 OCAA Women's Player of the Year Landis Doyle performed against the St. Clair Saints, racking up a game high 26 points. Doyle struck down 18 kills, four aces and added four defensive blocks to the team's 3-0 win. She recorded 10 points later on the week during a match versus the Lambton Lions to increase her points total to 123 points in just 18 games.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Ian Rettie, Trent Excalibur Men's Volleyball

Trent University setter Ian Rettie reached a milestone this past week as he erased the record for most career service aces, currently sitting with 123 aces during his five year tenure. Rettie had a consistent week from the baseline, racking up nine aces this week, including four versus Cambrian, three against Boreal and two in a victory over the Durham Lords. With 47 aces this season Rettie leads the OCAA league and with two matches remaining in the regular season. The record of 121 aces was formerly held by Jasmin Cull of Mohawk College.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Adrian Tomlinson, St. Lawrence Vikings Men's Basketball

Adrian Tomlinson of the St. Lawrence Vikings scored 32 points to lead the Vikings to a 93-76 win over visiting Centennial. The 5'10" point guard also dished out six assists and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Vikings to their sixth straight win. The Vikings moved up three spots in the latest OCAA Rankings to now sit in third.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Mandi Buma, Loyalist Lancers Women's Volleyball

Mandi Buma of the Loyalist Lancers women's volleyball program had a stellar week on the court, racking up an impressive 22 aces in two games this past week. She recorded 10 aces versus Fleming and another 12 against the Georgian Grizzlies. At present time Mandi has 47 aces this season and is closing in on her own season record of 63. Mandi is also the OCAA All-time career aces leader.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Kyle Donnan, Loyalist Lancers Men's Volleyball

Kyle Donnan had three outstanding games against the Trent Excalibur, Boreal Viperes and the Cambrian Golden Shield this past week. In his first match up, Donnan lead the team offensively with game high 25 kills and 10 digs. The 6'1" power hitter continued his point streak contributing 25 and 19 additional points in the 3-1 and 3-0 victories over the Viperes and Golden Shield respectively.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Carolyn Fragale, Algoma Thunderbirds Women's Basketball

Carolyn Fragale came up huge in the thrilling game against the Niagara Knights. With the score tied 51-51, the 5'6" guard landed a three-point shot with two seconds left on the clock to break the tie and take the win. In a previous game, Fragale lead the way with game high total of 17 points to also record a win against the Redeemer Royals 57-27.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Corey Cole, St. Clair Saints Men's Volleyball

Corey Cole of the St. Clair Saints set the OCAA Career Blocks record this past week against the Niagara Knights. The 6'5" middle managed to record blocks against four Knights' to move his career total blocks to 177. The feat surpassed former record holder Brendan Barrett-Hamilton of Cambrian/Georgian who had 174 over his career (1999-2004).

Women's Athlete of the Week – Samantha Scull, Sheridan Bruins Women's Basketball

Samantha Scull, a 6'4" center played an outstanding game for the Bruins this past week as they defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds 85-34. Scull, a fourth year Kent State University transfer, exploded with a game high 32 points during the match and collected 12 rebounds on the night.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Ben Cambridge, Cambrian Golden Shield Men's Volleyball

Ben Cambridge had a solid game this past week for the Cambrian Golden Shield in a 3-2 victory over La Cite. The 6'1, right-side hitter erased Brett Dailey's individual scoring record for most kills in a match of 30, lighting up the Coyotes with a game high 33 kills. The Haileybury native contributed three more kills to his weekly stats versus the Algonquin Thunder.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Shawna Metcalf, Cambrian Golden Shield Women's Volleyball

Shawna Metcalf sat alone as Cambrian Golden Shield's top point getter this week. The North Florida University transfer lead the Golden Shield with 15 kills, 5 serving aces and a block for a game high total 21 points in a 3-0 victory versus the Algonquin Thunder. Game two on the week brought about even more good play for the Azilda native as she went on to score 27 points in a 3-1 victory over La Cite. Metcalf currently holds top spot and is leading both East and West Divisions with 167 points this season.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Ryan Talsma, Redeemer Royals Men's Volleyball

Ryan Talsma had a standout game versus the Fanshawe Falcons this past week compiling 26 points in the five set victory. The fourth year right-side hitter ripped 22 kills in the home game, while adding three aces and a stuff block. Earlier in the week, the 6'6 Orono native also tallied 17 kills and a block versus the top ranked Humber Hawks.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Erika Straatsma, Redeemer Royals Women's Volleyball

Erika Straatsma of the Redeemer Royals played two solid, two-way games this week recording five kills, a block and 12 digs in a 3-0 loss to the second ranked Humber Hawks. Later in the week, the 5'11 second year player amped up the offense, clubbing 16 kills in a 3-2 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons (25-27, 25-29, 25-16, 12-25, 15-12).

Men's Athlete of the Week – Jovain Wilson-Cutting, Fleming Knights Men's Basketball

Jovain Wilson-Cutting had a stellar week for the Fleming Knights as he paced his team to a 94-85 victory over the top ranked St. Lawrence Vikings this week. Wilson-Cutting shot 50 per cent from the floor, pouring in 34 points while hauling in 17 boards. Jovain also showed his generosity on offense, nearly missing the triple double after handing off nine assists in the game. Earlier versus Loyalist the guard also had a dominant game racking up 35 points.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Chantal Gray, George Brown Huskies Women's Basketball

Chantal Gray was lights out in the game versus the Durham Lords shooting an impressive 85% from the field for 24 points. The second year guard went 2 for 3 from behind the arc and collected two rebounds on the night. Gray was also willing to hand off the ball, earning two assists in their 77-56 victory on the road.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Odane Ferguson, Sault Cougars Men's Basketball

Odane Ferguson, the 6'3 guard was impressive in the Sault Cougars 77-61 loss to the Niagara Knights. Ferguson exploded for 36 points on 12 for 17 shooting in addition to hitting 12 from the charity stripe. The scoring didn't stop there for second year player out of Toronto as he scored 15 points in a losing cause against Redeemer.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Donisha Young, Sheridan Bruins Women's Basketball

Donisha Young, a 5'10 forward scored a game high 30 points for Bruins as they defeated the Humber Hawks 115-58. Young stayed hot as she once again led the Bruins with 16 points in their 69-44 win over Niagara. In the Durham College Big 8 Classic, the Brampton native was named Tournament MVP as her Bruins downed the Fanshawe Falcons 82-55 in the Championship Final.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Joel Clarke, Mohawk Mountaineers Rugby

Joel Clarke of the Mohawk Mountaineers men's rugby team was instrumental in the last minute comeback that secured the Mountaineers with the OCAA DI Rugby Championship. Clarke found the end zone in the final moment of the game to put Mohawk back on top for good. He was also named the Man of the Match.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Lillian Sparkes, Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country

Lillian Sparkes has capped off the cross country running season with the highest honour for a runner, capturing the CCAA women's individual national championship this past weekend in Camrose, Alberta. Sparkes bested the national field with a time of 19:11 a full 12 seconds ahead of her next closest rival.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Ryan Ferguson, Loyalist Lancers Rugby

Ryan Ferguson was a man on a mission during the OCAA Division II Rugby Championship for the Loyalist Lancers, sacrificing his body on several occasions to prevent some solid scoring chances, especially blocking kicks. For his extra efforts that did not show up on the scoreboard, only his body, Ferguson was honoured as the championship's Man of the Match.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Mahmoud Mirsadeghi, Seneca Sting Soccer

Mahmoud Mirsadeghi wore the golden boot this past week in men's soccer scoring five goals in three games and leading his team to the CCAA National Championship title on his home turf. The first year forward, netted a hattrick versus Holland College, before capping off his week with two goals in the gold medal game, including the game winner in extra time.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Jory-Lynn Uyl, Fanshawe Falcons Soccer

Jory-Lynn Uyl of the Fanshawe Falcond consistently found her way through some of the best defenders in the country this past week and found the back of the net in the gold medal game. Jory-Lynn was also named a CCAA Championship Tournament All-star for her efforts.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Jason Smith, Conestoga Condors Cross Country Running

Conestoga's Jason Smith ran a remarkable 27:14.6 to take the gold medal at the OCAA Men's Cross Country Running Championship in Windsor. The second year runner was continually on the move during the race overtaking the pace biker on two occasions enroute to the victory.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Liliane Sparks, Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country Running

Fanshawe's Liliane Sparkes easily outran the field at the OCAA Women's Cross Country Running Championship in Windsor to take individual gold. The fourth year Computer Programing Analysis student crossed the wire in a time of 18:45.9 breaking the Malden Park course record.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Sean Pound, Algonquin Thunder Soccer

Sean Pound of the Algonquin Thunder men's soccer team was the rock that led his team to his team's sixth consecutive Belairdirect OCAA Championship gold medal. Pound, a fourth year defender was also named an OCAA League All-star, CCAA All-Canadian to compliment his MVP award.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Erin Hemming, Fanshawe Falcons Soccer

The Fanshawe Falcons women's soccer team captured the Belairdirect OCAA Women's Soccer Championship gold medal this past weekend, defeating the Durham Lords 1-0. Alana Cornet, a tournament all-star, scored the game winning goal for the Falcons early in the first half, providing all the scoring necessary. Erin Hemming was named the MVP of the tournament, while Emily Gillet was named the Top Goalkeeper, not allowing a goal in either game.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Chris Hargest, Niagara Knights Golf

Lefty, Chris Hargest fired a final round score of 70 (-1) to give Niagara College their first ever Gold Medal in Men's Individual Golf at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Golf Championship.The first-year Business Administration student had a three-round score of 213 (73, 70, and 70) that allowed him to finish on top of the field of 96 golfers from Colleges across Canada.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Samantha Newton, St. Clair Saints Fastball

Samantha Newton, the 2009 OCAA Women's Rookie of the Year proved her worth as she was also named the OCAA Women's Fastball Championship tournament's Most Valuable Player. Newton was impressive at the plate, batting at a .533 clip and led the Saints with 5 RBI's over the tournament.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Mike Zizek, Humber Hawks Golf

Mike Zizek captured his second consecutive OCAA Men's Golf Individual title this past week after shooting a three-round combined total of 219 (73, 71, 75). Zizek and his Hawk teammates also claimed their fourth straight OCAA Team Championship. Mike is a 5th year Business Management student at Guelph-Humber.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Danielle Green, Humber Hawks Golf

Danielle Green claimed her first OCAA Individual Championship title this week after playing the LochNess Golf Course in Welland, Ontario in a 54 hole total of 231 (76, 74, 81). Green's low scores also allowed her and her teammates to earn their fourth OCAA Team Championship in a row, and sixth in eight years. Danielle is a 5th year Golf Management student at Humber-U of T.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Bryan McCooeye, Georgian Grizzlies Rugby

Bryan McCooeye, a fourth year player, was clutch in the Georgian Grizzlies 16-13 victory over the Fleming Lindsay Auks in mens Division II Rugby this week. The 5'11 prop posted a convert after his teammate blocked an Auk kick for a try to give the Grizzlies a 7-0 lead. He was also good on a 25 yard penalty kick to give Georgian a 10-0 lead heading into the half. He was also a force in the second half, helping prevent the Auks from completing the comeback.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kayla MacLean, Durham Lords Fastball

Kayla MacLean of the Durham College women's fastball team pitched a perfect game on Sunday in the Lords 10-0 win over Conestoga College. MacLean was untouchable, sitting down 18 consecutive Condor batters, recording eight strikeouts enroute to the perfect game. MacLean also picked up a second victory this week as she was on the mound for the Lords 5-3 victory over the St. Clair Saints.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Caitlin Kelly, Fleming Knights Soccer

Caitlin Kelly has an eye-catching week for the Fleming Knights as the third year Laurentian University transfer student scored the game winning goal versus the defending OCAA silver medalists Seneca Sting. "She has provided experience and leadership to a young team," praised head coach Tony Bombino. "She has also played in various positions for us as each game has dictated and is a pleasure to coach."

Men's Athlete of the Week – John Mason, Fanshawe Cross Country

John Mason of Fanshawe College held a 12 second advantage when he crossed the finish line at the Fanshawe Invitational Cross Country Running meet this past week. The fifth year veteran earned his second victory of the season, also capturing the St. Lawrence College Invitational in 26:56.3, 16 seconds ahead of his next closest rival. He also led his team to the overall titles at both meets.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kayleigh Kramer, Durham Lords Golf

Kayleigh Kramer of the Durham Lords golf team earned her second consecutive women's individual title of the season shooting a blistering round of 79 to win the DC Open at Lakeridge Links this past week. Prior to the open she also won the Fanshawe Invitational playing her round in 84 strokes.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Calvin Rosario, Hawks Soccer

The Humber Hawks have got off to a flying start on the season, posting a 3-0-0 record on the week with wins over Redeemer, Mohawk and Fanshawe. Humber's star performer on the week was Calvin Rosario who scored in each of the three Hawks games. Rosario scored once in Humber's 4-0 win over the Royals, twice against the Mountaineers to lead Humber to a 5-3 victory and saved his best performance for last as he posted all three goals as the Hawks defeated the Falcons 3-0.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Rebecca Cunningham, Sting Fastball

Rebecca Cunningham of the Seneca Sting tied the OCAA Single Game strikeout record, hurling a 17 strikout complete game, this past week. The 5'8, third year student from Brampton, also helped her own cause from the batters box, going 1-2 and driving in a run. The effort equals the previous mark, set by former Seneca hurler and OCAA Hall of Famer Debbie Wadsworth in 1999, also against Mohawk. Cunningham's performance also allowed her team's overall effort to find its way into the OCAA record books, as the 17 strikeout effort also ties the Team Record for most combined strikeouts in a game.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Robert Malbasic, Saints Soccer

Robert Malbasic got right down to business for the Saint Clair Saints, as the third year forward notched four goals in his game against the Niagara Knights. An All-Canadian in 2007-08, Malbasic led his team to a 6-2 victory and the early scoring lead in the West Region as well as placing his team atop of the West standings.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Candice Gatecliffe, Saints Fastball

Nothing like a no-no to kick off the opening day of the OCAA women's fastball season. Candice Gatecliffe allowed only two Mohawk base runners in the game over the 23 batters she faced. She surrendered a walk in the 1st inning and in the 4th inning committed a fielding error, but was able to keep both runners from scoring on the way to the shut-out.
