Men's Athlete of the Week – Marcelo Capozzolo, Humber Hawks, Indoor Soccer

Third-year player Marcelo Capozzolo (Toronto) was named tournament most valuable player at the 2011 OCAA men's indoor soccer championship hosted by Conestoga College from March 24-25 at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughn, Ont. Capozzolo was the team's top defender as the Hawks limited the opposition to four goals in five games, and just one goal in the two-match medal round en route to Humber's second OCAA championship in three seasons.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Keyla Moreno, Humber Hawks, Indoor Soccer

Third-year player Keyla Moreno (Toronto) was named tournament most valuable player at the 2011 OCAA women's indoor soccer championship hosted by Conestoga College from March 24-25 at the OSA Soccer Centre in Vaughn, Ont. Moreno earned a hat trick in a 3-1 semifinal victory over Fleming (Peterborough), then scored the game-winning goal in the OCAA gold medal game, a 2-1 decision over Durham. It is Humber's second OCAA title in three seasons.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Michael Acheampong, Humber Hawks, Basketball

Third-year guard Michael Acheampong (Toronto) was named tournament most valuable player at the 2011 OCAA men's basketball championship hosted by Algoma University from March 3-5. Acheampong scored 55 points in three games at the Essar Centre, including 18 in a 66-59 win over Sheridan in the OCAA gold medal game. The OCAA first-team all-star was his team's leading scorer in all three tournament games. He scored 24 points in a 65-51 quarter-final win over Seneca, and 13 points in a narrow 62-57 win over Fanshawe in the semis. Overall, Acheampong was 19-of-39 from the field, and 15-of-19 from the free throw line. Acheampong ends his Humber career as a three-time OCAA champion.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Jenny Allen, Algonquin Thunder, Basketball

Fourth-year guard Jenny Allen (Ottawa) was named tournament most valuable player at the 2011 OCAA women's basketball championship hosted by Algonquin College from March 3-5. Allen scored 48 points in three games, including 11 points in a 59-46 win over Sheridan in the OCAA gold medal game. The CCAA all-Canadian and OCAA first-team all-star scored a team-high 21 points in a 71-54 quarter-final win over St. Clair, and followed this up with a game-high 16 points in a 75-58 win over Humber in the semis. Overall, Allen was 17-of-30 from the field, 10-of-16 from the free throw line, and contributed five assists in each of the three victories. Allen also grabbed 13 total rebounds.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Derek Quinn, Humber Hawks, Volleyball

Third-year setter Derek Quinn (Mississauga, Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player at the 2011 OCAA men's volleyball championship hosted by Seneca College. Quinn earned six offensive points on three kills, two stuff blocks and one service ace as well as 10 digs in a 3-2 (21-25, 11-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-7) win over Nipissing in the quarter-finals. He was named player of the game in a 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23) semifinal win over host Seneca, contributing seven points on three kills, three blocks and one ace along with seven digs. In the championship finale, a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 26-24) win over Redeemer, Quinn tallied seven points on three kills, two aces and two blocks along with three digs.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Landis Doyle, Humber Hawks, Volleyball

OCAA player of the year Landis Doyle (Toronto) added to her impressive résumé, earning tournament most valuable player honours at the 2011 OCAA women's volleyball championship hosted by Loyalist College. The all-time OCAA leader in offensive points and aces contributed a game-high 15 points on nine kills, three aces and three blocks in Humber's 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-14) quarter-final win over host Loyalist. Doyle followed this up with a 12-point performance against Fanshawe in the semifinals. She earned eight kills, three aces and one block in a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20) victory. In the championship finale against Nipissing, Doyle tallied nine kills and two blocks for 11 points in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) win.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Tim Chiu, George Brown Huskies, Badminton

2010-11 OCAA men's player of the year Tim Chiu successfully defended his men's singles title, defeating Humber's Chris Dupuis 2-0 (21-14, 21-9) in the final at last weekend's OCAA badminton championships. Chiu becomes the ninth player in OCAA history to win consecutive men's singles titles and will represent the conference at the upcoming nationals in Sackville, N.B.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Tracy Wong, Humber Hawks, Badminton

Humber's Tracy Wong ended a successful debut season on the OCAA circuit, defeating Phoebe Lam of George Brown 2-0 (21-5, 21-3) for the women's singles title. Wong is the 2010-11 OCAA women's player of the year and is a nominee for the CCAA women's player of the year. The all-Canadian was the only female badminton athlete to compete for Canada at last year's Youth Olympics in Singapore.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Alexandre Corsi Caya, Algonquin Thunder, Volleyball

Alexandre Corsi Caya (Ottawa), a fourth-year outside player, was instrumental in a pair of key home victories for the Algonquin Thunder this past weekend. In a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-18) win over Loyalist (13-4) on Friday, Corsi Caya earned a dozen offensive points on nine kills, two service aces and one block. In Saturday's 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-19) win over Durham, Corsi Caya led all players with 18 points on 14 kills, three aces and one block. Algonquin finishes the regular season with a record of 13-5, and has clinched a home playoff game in the OCAA championship qualifying round.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Stefanie Hancock, Nipissing Lakers, Volleyball

Outside player Stefanie Hancock (Huntsville, Ont.) earned a game-high 13 offensive points on 10 kills, two blocks and one ace as the Nipissing Lakers (21-1) handed the Humber Hawks (20-1) their first loss of the regular season in straight sets on Sunday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-21 and 25-20. The win clinches the OCAA West title for Nipissing as it earns a direct berth into the OCAA women's volleyball championship tournament. Nipissing has won 17 straight games since losing at Humber back on Nov. 14. Hancock has averaged 4.70 points per set this season to currently lead all of OCAA.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Matthew Tkaczyk, Fanshawe Falcons, Basketball

Second-year forward Matthew Tkaczyk (London, Ont.) scored a game-high 28 points in Fanshawe's 69-67 road victory over Niagara on Feb. 1. The win helped move Fanshawe (9-5) ahead of Niagara (9-6) in the OCAA West standings. Tkaczyk is one of the top scorers on the Falcons averaging 13.6 points per game. He is the team leader in three-pointers with 28. Fanshawe has clinched a post-season berth, but remains in a fight for playoff seeding.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Hannah Campbell, Georgian Grizzlies, Volleyball

First-year middle Hannah Campbell (Midland, Ont.) came up big in a pair of home victories this past weekend. Georgian defeated Algonquin 3-1 (25-13, 16-25, 25-23, 25-23) on Feb. 5 and La Cite 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-22) on Feb. 6 to improve to 10-7 on the season. Campbell was the offensive leader for Georgian in both games, totaling 26 points on 16 kills, five aces and five blocks. Georgian has won four straight and is in a tight race for a playoff spot in the OCAA East.

Men's Athlete of the Week – D.J. Wright, Algoma Thunderbirds, Basketball

The Algoma Thunderbirds had a weekend to remember as they defeated the Humber Hawks 78-69, handing the Hawks their first loss on the season in the process. The Algoma squad followed this up with another upset win as they knocked off the third ranked Sheridan Bruins 85-73. Third-year guard DJ Wright (Sault Ste. Marie) was instrumental in the two wins posting 23 points and nine rebounds in the win over Humber, following that up with a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) to lead Algoma over the Bruins.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Landis Doyle, Humber Hawks, Volleyball

Landis Doyle (Toronto) of the Humber College women's volleyball team is now the sole owner of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women's volleyball all-time individual points record. She accomplished this historic feat in a win against Conestoga on Wednesday. On the evening, Doyle finished the match with a total of 13 points, by way of 10 kills, one service ace and two stuff blocks, moving her into sole possession of the record. Doyle added to her total over the weekend as she scored 12 points in a 3-0 win against the Sault.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Eric Smith, Durham Lords, Basketball

Third-year forward Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) reached a significant milestone on Friday in a 91-84 victory at Georgian. Smith scored 34 points, bringing his career total to an even 1,000 points. He is second all-time in Durham scoring, trailing only Anthony Batchelor who scored an OCAA all-time record 1,833 career points. Smith currently leads the province in scoring and rebounds per game. Durham is 8-3 on the season and has moved into second place in the OCAA East.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Shawna Metcalf, Cambrian Golden Shield, Volleyball

The Cambrian Golden Shield (13-1) won a pair of games at home this weekend, none bigger than a 3-2 (25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 15-2) triumph over Loyalist (12-3) on Saturday. Third-year player Shawna Metcalf (Azilda, Ont.) was instrumental in the victory, leading the Golden Shield with 23 kills and four blocks for 27 points, while adding 17 digs. Cambrian has won nine straight regular season games, and are on pace for a second place finish in the OCAA East and direct entry into the provincial championship tournament.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Mathieu Riendeau, St. Lawrence (Kingston) Vikings, Basketball

Mathieu Riendeau (Ottawa) earned a double-double in St. Lawrence's 81-58 win over Georgian on Friday. The fourth-year forward scored a game-high 30 points, and added 13 rebounds. Riendeau is averaging a double-double per regular season game having earned 210 points and 110 rebounds in 11 games. St. Lawrence has won four straight regular season games, all on the road. With an 8-3 record, the Vikings are currently in second place in the OCAA East.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Summer Bly, Georgian Grizzlies, Basketball

Fourth-year forward Summer Bly (Barrie, Ont.) earned two double-doubles as the Georgian Grizzlies women's basketball team improved their OCAA regular season win streak to six games. In a 53-50 victory over George Brown on Wednesday, Bly led all players with 17 points and 11 rebounds. A consistent Bly scored another 17 points while grabbing a dozen boards in a 68-39 win over St. Lawrence (Kingston) on Friday. Georgian is 7-3 on the season, good for third place in the OCAA East.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Terrel Bramwell, Humber Hawks, Volleyball

Terrel Bramwell (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded 40 offensive points in Humber's 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 21-25, 15-7) win over Redeemer last Tuesday, setting a new OCAA single-game record, surpassing the mark of 39 set by Brett Dailey of Seneca in 2005-06. Bramwell had a game-high 32 kills (one short of a record) as well as seven aces and one block. Bramwell also contributed 17 points on 11 kills, five aces and one block in Humber's 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-20) win at St. Clair on Saturday.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kerri Fotherby, Durham Lords, Volleyball

Kerri Fotherby (Newcastle, Ont.) was two blocks shy of the OCAA record for most blocks in a game as she recorded 11 in the Lords 3-2 (25-19, 21-25, 27-25, 25-27, 15-5) win over La Cite on Saturday. The record of 13 was set in 2008-09 by Cassandra Musungayi of Niagara. Fotherby and her Lords teammates did tie an OCAA single-game record with a total of 23 blocks in the match. Fotherby also recorded 15 kills and three aces, giving her 29 points. Fotherby has had a standout season with the Lords in 2010-11. She is the Top 10 in OCAA East region kills, blocks, points and digs.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Warsama Elmi, La Cite Coyotes, Basketball

Third-year guard Warsama Elmi (Ottawa) scored a game-high 31 points to lead La Cite Coyotes to a 76-74 upset win over Durham in men's basketball on Friday. Durham (6-3) was on a six-game win streak entering the game. Elmi is the top scorer on La Cite (3-7) averaging 17.4 points in eight games. He is a threat on both sides of the three-point arc, scoring 20 three-pointers this season.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kaitlyn McKenna, Niagara Knights, Basketball

Fifth-year forward Kaitlyn McKenna (St. Catharines, Ont.) scored 26 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double in leading the Niagara Knights to a 75-60 win over St. Clair (3-2) on Friday. All but two of her points came in the second half as Niagara (5-0) trailed 41-29 at half-time. Prior to the game, McKenna was honoured for becoming Niagara's all-time leading scorer. She now has 811 points in her illustrious career.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Kyle Donnan, Loyalist Lancers, Volleyball

Fourth-year power Kyle Donnan (Pickering, Ont.) led Loyalist to three victories last week. In each victory, Donnan led his teammates in kills, service aces and points. In the three games combined, Donnan contributed 46 kills, seven aces and two blocks totaling 55 points, while contributing 26 digs. Loyalist defeated Fleming (Peterborough), Trent and Georgian to improve its record to 3-1. Donnan is a reigning OCAA all-star.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Desiree Tindugan, Sheridan Bruins, Basketball

First-year guard Desiree Tindugan (Mississauga, Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player as the Sheridan Bruins won their third straight Durham College Big 8 Classic on the weekend. Tindugan scored 46 points in three games at the tournament, all Sheridan victories. In regular season action, Sheridan defeated Humber 89-51 last Tuesday to improve to 3-0 on the year. Tindugan scored 19 points and added nine rebounds and four assists.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Clint Smith, Fanshawe Falcons, Cross Country

Fanshawe College runner Clint Smith completed a successful season on the cross country circuit, winning a bronze medal at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) cross country running national championships in Fredericton on Saturday. Smith completed the 8 km course in a time of 25:41, helping Fanshawe win the men's team title. Smith was used to podium finishes in 2010, winning both the St. Lawrence College (Kingston) and Fleming College (Peterborough) Invitationals while finishing in second place at the OCAA championship. It is the first men's individual medal at the CCAA championship for an OCAA student-athlete since 2007.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Liliane Sparkes, Fanshawe Falcons, Cross Country

Fanshawe College runner Liliane Sparkes took home an individual bronze medal at the CCAA cross country nationals, finishing the 5 km course in a time of 18:13, a dozen seconds behind the front runners. Sparkes also helped Fanshawe win the women's team title. Sparkes is a two-time defending OCAA women's champion, and was the individual champion at nationals in 2009. Over the past two months she finished in first place at the St. Lawrence College (Kingston) and St. Clair Invitationals, and took silver at the Fanshawe College and Fleming College (Peterborough) Invitationals. She is a previous OCAA athlete of the week for the period ending Nov. 1, 2010.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Bryan Cole, Loyalist Lancers, Rugby

First-year player Bryan Cole (Trenton, Ont.) scored a try, convert and a pair of penalty goals to lift the Loyalist Lancers to a second straight OCAA Division II men's rugby championship on Wednesday. Cole was named man of the match for his game-high 13-point effort. During the regular season, Cole scored four tries, six converts and two penalty goals for 38 points in four games.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Sara Levesque, St. Clair Saints, Basketball

Fourth-year player Sara Levesque (Hornepayne, Ont.) scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, both game highs, as the St. Clair Saints defeated Mohawk 90-47 on Friday night. She also contributed four assists and three block shots to go along with her double-double. St. Clair's 90 points was the most by a women's basketball game this season.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Marcelo Cappozolo, Humber Hawks, Soccer

Third-year defender Marcelo Cappozolo (Toronto) was named tournament most valuable player at the OCAA men's soccer championship after leading his team to their first provincial title since 2001. Humber College shut out Mohawk College 2-0 on Friday then defeated Sheridan I.T. 2-1 on Saturday to win the OCAA banner. Humber now advances to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) championship Nov. 10-13 in Edmonton.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Jason Smith, Conestoga Condors, Cross Country

Jason Smith won his second consecutive OCAA men's individual cross country title on Saturday at the Fanshawe Conservation Area in London, Ont. Smith's 8 km time of 26:01, thirteen seconds better than silver medalist Clint Smith of Fanshawe College. It is a fourth straight year that a Conestoga runner has won the OCAA men's individual championship (David Sharratt won back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008).

Women's Athlete of the Week – Sonia Rocha, Humber Hawks, Soccer

Third-year midfielder Sonia Rocha (Mississauga, Ont.) was named tournament most valuable player at the OCAA women's soccer championship. She scored in a 3-0 semifinal victory over Seneca College, and was instrumental in a 3-0 win over defending OCAA champion Fanshawe. Humber has shut out its opponents in seven straight matches, including three post-season games. Humber now advances to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) championship Nov. 10-13 in Edmonton.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Liliane Sparkes, Fanshawe Falcons, Cross Country

Liliane Sparkes won her second straight OCAA women's individual cross country title on Saturday as Fanshawe College won a third consecutive women's team title. Sparkes' 5 km time of 18:53, five seconds ahead of St. Lawrence College (Kingston) runner Richelle Moore. In four OCAA races leading into the championship, Sparkes won two and finished second twice. The CCAA championships take place Nov. 12-13 in Fredericton.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Adam Petrina, Mohawk Mountaineers, Soccer

Second-year striker Adam Petrina (Grimbsy, Ont.) works best under pressure. How else do you explain a hat trick against Niagara College in a sudden death OCAA playoff qualifier last Tuesday, resulting in Mohawk College's 6-4 overtime win? Or Petrina's goal in overtime at La Cite Collegiale for a 1-0 victory in Sunday's OCAA quarter-final? Petrina's four-goal outburst in the post-season is even more impressive when compared to his 2010 regular season output of one goal in eight regular season matches.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Natalie Tam, Seneca Sting, Rugby

Natalie Tam was the difference in a 15-12 Seneca victory over Fleming (Lindsay) last Thursday. Tam scored a pair of tries to add to her team-leading four. She is tied with two others players for the OCAA lead. Tam is also the OCAA leader in points with 22. Seneca (3-0-0-1) is tied with Humber College for the best record in OCAA, and will meet this Wednesday to decide first place in the regular season standings.

Men's Athlete of the Week – David Lang, Humber Hawks, Golf

David Lang (Toronto) had an amazing three rounds at the PING/Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national golf championship held at The Dunes at Kamloops in British Columbia. Lang opened with a round of 69, followed this with a 67, and kept his closest rivals at bay with a final round of 70 to win the men's individual title by six strokes ahead of teammate and OCAA champion Mark Hoffman. Lang was the only golfer to post a pair of sub-70 rounds, and he came within a stroke of doing it a third time. For Humber, it was a 1-2-3 sweep of the men's individual medals (a first in CCAA history) with Adrian Cord winning bronze, as well as an eighth men's team national title for Humber.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Shannon Ferguson, Durham Lords, Fastball

Durham is OCAA women's fastball champions once again, thanks in large part to the efforts of Shannon Ferguson (Brockville, Ont.). The Lords third-year catcher was golden at the plate at the OCAA championship tournament, going 7-for-9. She scored a total of four runs and drove in one as Durham won three straight to win its 15th provincial title. In the championship finale, a 10-1 win over St. Clair College, Ferguson went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Ferguson averaged at least two hits per game, and was named tournament most valuable player.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Mark Hoffman, Humber Hawks, Golf

Mark Hoffman (Thornhill, Ont.) of Humber College won the men's individual title at the OCAA golf championship last week, posting rounds of 73-70-71 for a three-day total of 2-under par 214, four shots better than teammate Adrian Cord. It is the third straight year the OCAA men's champion has come from Humber, and the fourth time in five years.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kayleigh Kraemer, Durham Lords, Golf

Kayleigh Kraemer (Andernach, Germany) of Durham College won the women's individual title at the OCAA golf championship last week, improving on her silver medal finish one year ago. Kraemer posted rounds of 71-76-72 for a three-day total of 3-over par 219, finishing seven shots better than teammate Tiffany Albath. Kraemer is the first Durham athlete to win the women's individual title since Stephanie Brown in 2005.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Jose Bruno Mota, La Cite Coyotes, Soccer

OCAA leading scorer Jose Bruno Mota (Guatemala) scored all four goals in La Cite's 4-0 win over host Centennial on Saturday. Bruno Mota now has 13 goals in seven games, averaging 1.86 goals per match, and six more goals than his closest competitor. La Cite has a record of 4-2-1, one win better than last season and in five less games.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Kandice Bagley, St. Clair Saints, Fastball

Kandice Bagley (Windsor, Ont.) pitched a no-hitter last Wednesday in a 10-1 victory over Mohawk. Bagley surrendered only one run while striking out five Mohawk batters. She carried a perfect game through four innings and helped herself at the plate with two hits and two RBIs. Bagley has an ERA of 2.94 in 26.2 innings pitched.

Men's Athlete of the Week – John Rhodes, Conestoga Condors, Rugby

First-year flanker John Rhodes of Maxwell, Ont. scored a pair of tries in Conestoga's 15-14 upset victory over Seneca on Sunday. The victory over the reigning Division I bronze medalists was Conestoga's first win since Oct. 8, 2008 (ironically against Seneca 24-10). Conestoga had lost nine straight, including a 0-7-0-0 record in 2009.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Amy Stewart, Cambrian Golden Shield, Soccer

Amy Stewart earned back-to-back hat tricks over the weekend, scoring three goals in a 4-0 win over Loyalist on Saturday, then again in a 4-0 win over Centennial on Sunday. The first-year forward now has seven goals on the season to lead all of OCAA. Cambrian has a record of 3-2-1 having played six of its eight regular season games.

Men's Athlete of the Week – Chris VanSickle, Mohawk Mountaineers, Rugby

The reigning OCAA scoring champion got off to a quick start in Mohawk's season opener against Trent. The second-year centre from Brantford, Ont. led the way with a 20-point effort, scoring a couple of tries while completing five conversions in a 45-10 victory on Saturday. Mohawk is the defending OCAA Division I champion.

Women's Athlete of the Week – Erica Dewey, Durham Lords, Fastball

The third-year centre fielder from Port Hope, Ont., tied an OCAA single-game record with six RBI in a 19-0 victory over Seneca last Tuesday. Dewey was 3-for-3 at the place, scoring four runs herself. She also flashed some leather in the outfield, making some excellent plays. Durham has allowed just one run in two games, both victories.
