DAY 2 COMPLETE AT OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PROVINCIALS

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers will meet the Durham Lords in the gold medal match of the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

Semi-Final #2 - Mohawk 3, Georgian 0

The hometown Mountaineers swept the Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie, Ont., 25-19, 25-14. 25-11, before a loud, packed house at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre in Hamilton, Ont., on Friday night.

Georgian had gone through the regular season undefeated.

Nathan Delguidice led the way for Mohawk with 13 kills, one service ace and one stuff block. OCAA Men's Volleyball Player of the Year, Trevor McLaughlin, had nine kills, two service aces and one block. Cody Charlton had six blocks. Chris Spack recorded 32 assists and was named Mohawk Player of the Game.

For Georgian, Adam Bielby had six kills and Trevor Recalla had four kills and one block. Liam Gray produced 15 assists. 

Darien Haynes was the Grizzlies Player of the Game.

Saturday, the action starts at 12 noon, as Redeemer takes on Humber in the Consolation Final. 

At 2 p.m., it's the bronze medal match between Fanshawe and Georgian.

Then the gold medal match between Durham and Mohawk is set for 5 p.m.

Semi-Final #1 - Durham 3, Fanshawe 0

The Durham Lords have reserved their spot in the final of the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

The Lords stunned the the Fanshawe Falcons in three straight sets - 25-16, 25-19 and in a tremendously entertaining third set, 27-25.

The Falcons, the defending champions, were 17-1 in the West Division regular season and Durham was 16-2 in the East.

Harrison Wood of the Lords had 15 kills, one service ace and four stuff blocks. Andrew Dube had eight kills and one ace. John Pham had 28 assists and 11 digs. Michael Harper, who was credited with seven blocks, was named Durham's Player of the Game.

Sam Otten recorded nine kills and had two blocks for Fanshawe, while teammate James Jackson also got nine kills. Sebastian Lethbridge had 28 assists for the Falcons.

The Lords will play for the gold medal Saturday at 5 p.m. against the Mohawk-Georgian winner.

Fanshawe must now try for the bronze medal at 2 p.m. against the Georgian-Mohawk loser.

Consolation Semi-Final #2 - Humber 3, Sheridan 1

The Humber Hawks will face the Redeemer Royals in the Consolation Final of the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

The Hawks eliminated the Sheridan Bruins 3-1 on Friday. Set scores were 27-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-11.

Alex Gibbs had 17 kills, three service aces and two stuff blocks for the Hawks. Clayton Blanchette, Humber's Player of the Game, recorded 11 kills, one ace and one block. Adam Kinoshita had 37 assists.

Shaun Lasala led the Sheridan offence with 11 kills and two blocks. Parvir Jhajj had nine kills and one ace. Justin Kong put up 37 assists and was named the Bruins Player of the Game.

The Humber-Redeemer Consolation Final on Saturday will start at 12:00 pm at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont.

Consolation Semi-Final #1 - Redeemer 3, George Brown 1

The Redeemer Royals have advanced to the Consolation Final at the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

After losing the opening set to George Brown Huskies, the Royals came back to win 27-29, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 at Mohawk College on Friday.

Linden Bontkes, Redeemer's Player of the Game, had 19 kills, one service ace and four stuff blocks. Mitchell Harris provided 10 kills, one ace and two blocks. Pearson Stiller had 41 assists.

For George Brown, D'Artaniel Jackman collected nine kills and two blocks. Stephen Duong had eight kills, one ace and one block. Pradeep Bhogal contributed 39 assists. 

Ahmed Youssef was named George Brown's Player of the Game.

The Huskies are eliminated from further play in the championhsip, but Redeemer waits to see their opponent in the Consolation Final on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. They'll meet the winner of the Humber-Sheridan match.
