MOHAWK WINS OCAA MEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY BELAIRDIRECT

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers have won the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

OCAA Gold Medal Match - Mohawk 3, Durham 0

The Mountaineers, playing on their home court, swept the Durham Lords 25-20, 25-19, 25-21 on Saturday.

Eric Girard was Mohawk's Player of the Game while Andrew Dube took the honour for the Lords.

It was the ninth OCAA men's volleyball championship for Mohawk, which advances to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship at Fanshawe College in London, Ont., from March 8-11.

Earlier Saturday, the Fanshawe Falcons won the bronze medal, defeating the Georgian Grizzlies 25-20, 25-11, 25-23 and the Redeemer Royals took the consolation title, over the Humber Hawks, 20-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 15-10.

Mountaineers setter Chris Spack was named Most Valuable Player in the championship.

Spack was also one of three Mohawk Championship All-Stars. The others were Nathan Delguidice and Mitch McFadden. Also being named to the select team were Durham's Andrew Dube and Harrison Wood, as well as Fanshawe's James Jackson.

The Championship Fair Play Award was presented to Redeemer.

OCAA Bronze Medal Match - Fanshawe 3, Georgian 0

The Fanshawe Falcons have won the bronze medal at the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

The London, Ont., college swept the Georgian Grizzlies of Barrie, Ont., 25-20, 25-11, 25-23 at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre in Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday. The Grizzlies almost salvaged the final set. They were trailing 22-16 and had a big comeback, which just fell short.

Falcons Player of the Game, James Jackson, had 21 kills, one service ace and three stuff blocks. Nate Van Camp had seven kills, one ace and three blocks. Andre Foreman had seven kills as well. Sebastian Lethbridge produced 35 assists.

For the Grizzlies, Adam Bielby collected five kills and one ace. Jordi Romero also had five kills. Liam Gray, Georgian's Player of the Game, had 18 assists and nine digs.

Consolation Final - Redeemer 3, Humber 2

The Redeemer Royals came back from a two-set deficit to defeat the Humber Hawks 3-2 in the Consolation Final of the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship presented by belairdirect.

The Royals won 20-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 15-10, at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday.

Royals Player of the Game, Morgan Rutledge, had 17 kills and one stuff block. Brady DeBoer came up with seven kills, one service ace and four stuff blocks, while Shawn Brus recorded seven kills. Reuben Middel had 29 assists, while Pearson Stiller added 19. Eli Tolkamp contributed 15 digs.

For Humber, Clayton Blanchette produced 14 kills and one block. Michael Majcen had 10 kills and one block and Alex Gibbs scored eight kills and one block. Adam Kinoshita had five kills to go with 30 assists and was named Humber's Player of the Game.
