BELL HEADLINES OCAA WOMEN'S SOFTBALL AWARDS

KITCHENER, Ont. - Conestoga College's Brittany Bell (New Hamburg) is the 2016 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Softball Player of the Year. She received the award in a ceremony held in Kitchener, Ont., on Thursday evening.

The OCAA Batting Champion led all OCAA players with a .500 batting average, .557 on base percentage, .910 slugging percentage, 29 RBI, 71 total bases and eight doubles. She was also among the league leaders with 39 hits and 25 runs. Bell is also an OCAA All-Star.

MacKenzie Kelly (Oil Springs) of Fanshawe is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Kelly had a batting average of .450 going 27-for-60. She scored 17 times, while contributing 17 RBI. Kelly also stole five bases.

St. Clair's Alexa Georgiou (Windsor) is the OCAA Pitcher of the Year. Georgiou led the OCAA with 10 wins, and was among the league leaders with 65 strikeouts and a 1.91 ERA. She is also an OCAA All-Star.

Todd Bannister of Mohawk is the OCAA Coach of the Year. After three consecutive winless campaigns, Bannister has led the Mountaineers to 13 wins the past two seasons, including a 7-17 mark this season. Mohawk picked up wins against Durham and Humber this season, two teams that have advanced to the OCAA championship.

Also named OCAA All-Stars were Amanda Rose (Nithburd) and Laura Rumph (Drayton) of Conestoga; Rachel Dotzert (Stratford), Kady Hawkins (London) and Jacey Lochert (Belwood) of Fanshawe; Aaliyah Davidson (Brampton) and Myranda Pierson (Pickering) of Humber; Aimee Leduc (Princeton) of Mohawk; and Skyler Patteson (Guelph) of St. Clair.
