DAVIDSON NAMED TOP PLAYER IN OCAA WOMEN'S SOFTBALL

TORONTO - Humber College's Aaliyah Davidson (Brampton) is the 2017 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Women's Softball Player of the Year. She received the award in a ceremony held in Toronto on Thursday evening.

The fourth-year outfielder led the OCAA with three home runs and 28 RBI and was third among OCAA players with a .711 slugging percentage. Davidson batted .382 with a team-high 29 hits, including 15 for extra bases. She also scored 22 times, one off the team lead. Davidson is also an OCAA All-Star.

Shelby Hayward (Hamilton) of Mohawk is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Hayward had a terrific debut season, leading all OCAA players with seven triples and three home runs. Hayward led her team with 30 hits, 22 runs and 21 RBI. She had a batting average of .375. Hayward is also an OCAA All-Star.

Durham's Marina Christie (Pickering) is the 2017 OCAA Batting Champion. The third-year first baseman batted .520, sixty-two points higher than her closest rival. She also had a .547 on base percentage, and .680 slugging percentage.

Olivia Elliott (Oakville) of St. Clair is the OCAA Pitcher of the Year. Elliott was second among OCAA hurlers with a 1.83 ERA and 72 strikeouts in her first post-secondary season. She averaged 6.6 strikeouts per seven innings, best among her peers, and had a 9-3 record. Elliott is also an OCAA All-star.

Doug Wiseman of St. Clair is the OCAA Coach of the Year. Wiseman led St. Clair to a fifth straight regular season title with a record of 20-4. They ended the campaign on a 10-game win streak.

Also named OCAA All-Stars were Conestoga's Brittany Bell (New Hamburg); Durham's Ashley Black (Waterloo) and Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale); Fanshawe's Jacey Lochert (Bellwood); Humber's Terah Camilleri (Streetsville) and Jenna Hillman (Tecumseh); and St. Clair's Sarah Bondy (Amherstburg) and Madisyn Clark (Leamington).
