DURHAM TOPS ST. CLAIR TO CLAIM SPOT IN OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

BRAMPTON, Ont – The Durham Lords will make their third straight appearance in the OCAA Softball Championship Gold Medal game after defeating the top-seeded St. Clair Saints 11-0 on Friday, October 20, at the Brampton Fairgrounds

The pitching matchup featured two of the OCAA best in St. Clair’s Olivia Elliot and Durham’s Ashley Black.

Black would get the better of Elliot in this one as she pitched a complete game shutout allowing just 5 hits over her six innings of work. Elliot meanwhile pitched three innings allowing four runs on five hits in her shortest outing of the season as a starter.

The Lords got out to an early 4-0 lead scoring in each of the first three innings, highlighted by Jaimie Clarke’s two-run double.

The score would remain at four until the top of the sixth inning where Durham broke the game wide open scoring seven runs, capped off by Ashley Wallace’s grand slam, giving her seven RBI’s on the first day of the OCAA Championship.

Durham will not await the winner of the Bronze Medal Game, which will feature the St. Clair Saints taking on the Mohawk Mountaineers. That game is scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, October 21, at Brampton Fairgrounds, while the Gold medal game will begin at 1:00 pm.
