MOHAWK CLINCHES SPOT IN BRONZE MEDAL GAME

BRAMPTON, Ont – In the third game of the 2017 OCAA Softball Championship, the Mohawk Mountaineers defeated the Humber Hawks by a score of 10-4.

Aimee Leduc claimed the victory pitching in back to back games for the Mohawks. She pitched the complete game for her team allowing four runs on 13 hits, fanning six Humber batters.

Humber’s Myranda Pierson took the loss in this one pitching 3.2 innings allowing eight runs on five hits, including two home runs.

The Mountaineers got on the board early taking on three runs in the first, two off a home run by shortstop Shanien O’Neill.

The score would remain 3-0 until the top of the fourth, where Mohawk would erupt for six runs, four of which came off a Sarah Bell grand slam that would chase pitcher Myranda Pierson from the game.

The Hawks wouldn’t get to Aimee Leduc until the bottom of the fifth where they scored one run on a RBI single by Aaliyah Davidson.

Shanien O’Neill hit her second home run of the game in the seventh inning to push Mohawk’s lead back up to nine. The deficit would prove too much for Humber as they were only able to muster three runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Mohawk will now meet the loser of the St. Clair vs. Durham game in the Bronze Medal Game at 10:00 am on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Brampton Fairgrounds.
