HUMBER CAPTURES THE GOLD IN THE OCAA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Humber Hawks put on a show in the OCAA Women's Basketball Championship game winning 76-40 over the Mohawk Mountaineers. 

The Hawks took the first quarter away from the Mountaineers scoring 14 to Mohawks 6.  The Mountaineers lost OCAA Rookie of the Year and 1st team All-Star Sam Pocrnic in the first minute of play to a knee injury.  2nd team All-Star Aleena Domingo led the way for the Hawks with 8 points. 

The Mountaineers were able to find the basket in the second quarter with Careena Browne scoring 6 of their 11 points.  OCAA Player of the Year Ceejay Nofuente got into her groove for the Hawks putting up 7 points, not to be out done Domingo scored 7 points for the Hawks as well.  The Hawks took a commanding 35-17 lead over the Mountaineers at half. 

Nofuente came to life in the third quarter hitting two, three-pointers and a pair of free throws for the Hawks, Domingo followed close behind with 7 points.  Kucic and Browne put up 4 points each for the Mountaineers.  The Hawks would out score the Mountaineers 22-12 to go into the fourth quarter with a 57-29 lead.

The Hawks coasted through the fourth with Nofuente adding another 8 points to her total.  Hrymak led the Mountaineers with 4 points.  The Hawks took the Championship with style as they closed out the game 76-40.

Browne led the Mountaineers with 11 points and 5 rebounds.  While Hrymak contributed 8 points and 3 rebounds to the Mountaineers silver medal efforts.

Player of the Game and Tournament MVP Ceejay Nofuente proved why she deserves her accolades.  Nofuente put up 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals.  Aleena Domingo kept on Nofuente's heels with 25 points of her own and 16 rebounds.  Felicia Valasquez contributed 7 points and 4 assists to the Humber Hawks Gold Medal.  The Hawks will represent the OCAA as the only team moving on to the CCAA tournament.
