RAYMOND WONG

Category: Athlete
Sport: Badminton
Institution: Humber College
Inducted: 2013

Raymond Wong was an impact athlete on the badminton court during his three seasons at Humber. Individually, Wong won three OCAA gold medals, a national gold and bronze medal, and was named a CCAA All-Canadian and OCAA Player of the Year.

He competed in men's singles his first two seasons, and then moved on to mixed doubles, where he partnered with 2009-10 OCAA Female Athlete of the Year Renee Yip to win the national crown.

With his individual success, Raymond was a significant factor in leading the Hawks to several team honours at provincials as well, earning overall bronze (2007-08), then silver (2008-09) and ultimately gold (2009-10). The Hawks men's team won gold in two of these years as well.

He was the first in a number of Wong family members to enter OCAA badminton play and dominate the league. Brother Mark was also an OCAA Player of the Year, as is current Hawk and three-time OCAA gold medalist and 2012-13 national women's doubles champion, sister Tracy. Fittingly, Tracy team up with her brother's former parnter Yip to win the title.

Raymond is a member of the Humber College Athletics Hall of Fame. He continues to make an impact in OCAA badminton, as head coach of the Humber Hawks team.
