Paul completed the Recreation and Leisure Course at Fanshawe College. He was a standout, three-sport athlete in men's soccer, men's doubles badminton and tennis.

He was the back-to-back MVP for the soccer team in 1977-78 and 1978-79, in which both years they won the OCAA provincial championship. Paul also finished third on two different occasions (1977-78 with Chris Pheonix and in 1978-79 with Rob Marshall) at the West regional badminton championships. Paul was the recipient of the male athlete of the year award at Fanshawe College in 1979.

Paul was recently inducted into the Wallaceburg Hall of Fame. He is currently the head coach of the men's outdoor and indoor soccer teams at Fanshawe College. Paul was also named the OCAA and CCAA men's soccer coach of the year for the 2008-09 outdoor men's soccer season.

Paul was also the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award at Fanshawe College for his contributions to society in a substantial way as well as achieving a great deal of career success. He is currently manager-area recreation service for the City of London.
