Marie was a graduate of the Recreation and Leisure Program in 1976 from Fanshawe College. She played on an incredible four varsity teams during her time at Fanshawe including basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton.

As part of the badminton team, she was the OCAA women's singles badminton champion in 1971. She was also a member of the gold medal winning women's basketball and volleyball teams in 1970-71.

Continuing her winning ways, Marie went on to win a second OCAA gold medal in women's volleyball in 1971-72, along with a gold medal for the table tennis team. Marie also was named Fanshawe College Female Athlete of the Year in 1972. 

Marie was also the student athletic representative at Fanshawe College in 1971-72. She also won the Presidents' Award that same year which is given to a Fanshawe graduate who has achieved great academic success as well as making a significant contribution to campus life.

Marie continued on to be the head coach the women's basketball team and the assistant coach of the badminton team, both in 1979-80.
