Lorne made his first appearance on the colligate curling scene during the 1986 season. That year the 67's mixed curling team claimed the North regional championships before going on to win a bronze medal at the provincial championships. He followed up that season with a phenomenal display of curling, skipping the 67's foursome to an outstanding 18-0 record, capturing the regional, provincial and national titles.

At the 1988 OCAA championships, the entire gold medal team was named to the championship all-star team. Jackson was also recognized for his excellent play at the national championship as he was named as a first-team all-star. Lorne and his teammate, Kathie Jackson, were honoured as Confederation College curling MVPs and received the City of Thunder Bay Distinguished Achievement Award.

Lorne went on to compete at the Northern Ontario district and provincial play downs, while remaining active in the leadership of the Fort Frances Curling Club.
