Joey Martins was an outstanding player for the Loyalist Lancers men's volleyball team for two seasons from 2001-2003, helping lead his team to two straight undefeated OCAA seasons.

The Lancers won two straight East Division titles and back-to-back OCAA gold medals as well as a bronze and silver medal at the national level.

Martins was a two-time OCAA Championship All-Star, OCAA scoring champion, two-time CCAA All-Canadian and was twice named a CCAA First-Team All-Star at the national championships.

Martins was also named the team's most valuable player twice, was a two-time Loyalist College Athlete of the Year and was named OCAA Athlete of the Year in his last year.

After graduating from Loyalist, Martins went onto Red Deer College where he was named the two time men's volleyball MVP and two-time Athlete of the Year. In 2007, Martins played professionally in Portugal division one, ending up the season as the fifth-best passer in the league.
