LORETTA MCKENZIE

LORETTA MCKENZIE

Category: Builder
Institution: OCAA Central Office
Inducted: 2007

Loretta McKenzie quite simply pulled and pushed the OCAA Central Office into a modern operational era. Providing the OCAA executive with extreme energy and focus in the areas of organizational effectiveness, financial renewal, customer service and marketing creativity, Loretta preformed duties well beyond the scope of the position.

During her time, she effectively reorganized the AGMs and helped make the transition smooth when the Central Office began to plan, deliver and coordinate the week-long meetings. She was also instrumental in leading the annual Marketplace and her efforts were noticed financially when the reserves began to grow, leading to new projects such as the Hugh Munroe and the Golf Marathon. She was a driving force with the redesign of the media guides and completely revised the OCAA Operations Manual which was a huge task she initiated on her own accord.

Elevating the profile of the OCAA is also listed on her resume and under her guidance the first OCAA website was developed. The creative McKenzie also redesigned The Record newsletter and again lowered the costs of production and distribution when she took advantage of new technology moving from the mailing of the newsletter to its faxing.

Not afraid to try something new, Loretta was the first to secure grants to utilize eager student staff members throughout the college and summer seasons. She was also instrumental in securing sponsorship agreements with Belair Direct, General Motors and Via Rail.

Giving back to the athletes was also a priority to McKenzie, and she was one of the pushes behind the creation of the OCAA Athlete of the Year awards.
