Gabe Roy was a leading player in the Cambrian Golden Shield women's badminton program from 1997 to 2001. During her four-year colligate career, Gabe dominated her competition, taking home four consecutive gold medals in both singles and mixed doubles while compiling an astonishing 26-0 record at the OCAA championships.

Roy also had success at the national level. In her four appearances, Roy reached the medal podium every time. In 1998 and 1999, she earned a bronze and silver medal and during her junior season she completed her CCAA medal collection claiming the 2000 national title in women's doubles. Gabe also captured the national team supremacy award, earning the OCAA's first overall national title. Roy capped off her career one year later with a CCAA bronze medal in women's doubles.

Her team benefited greatly from her efforts, holding the overall title from 1999-2001, establishing the Cambrian Golden Shield as one of the elite badminton programs in the country. In 1999-2000, Gabe was hailed as the OCAA Female Athlete of the Year along with playing partner Melanie Finley, a fitting honour during an excellent badminton career.
