A native of Scotland, David Stewart became the Athletic Director at Durham College in 1970 and over a 26-year period was a guiding force in Durham College Athletics and the OCAA.

David's long and successful career had many memorable highlights, including the schools first-ever championship, which came in men's curling in 1972; the official opening of the Athletic Centre in 1977; and the hosting of the national men's and women's college volleyball championships in 1990. David was inducted into the Durham College Sports Hall of Fame as the very first inductee in 1997.

David served the OCAA proudly as a member of the executive on two occasions; the first as vice-president from 1981-83 and the second as vice-president from 1993-95. He also served as provincial convenor numerous times in a variety of sports, including basketball and soccer.

One of the significant contributions while on the OCAA Executive was developing the first bonafide, fairplay guidelines decorum that has become the foundation and benchmark sections in the OCAA operations manual that exist today.

Under Dave's leadership, Durham College teams captured 28 Ontario provincial titles, in addition to many silver and bronze finishes. His knowledge, dedication and vision benefitted countless students over the years.
