Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – A well-rounded effort in the fourth quarter resulted in a key 82-67 comeback victory for the Durham College men's basketball team.
The Lords trailed 60-57 through three, but
Trea Lawson (Whitby, Ont.) and
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) led the charge with 18 of Durham's 25 fourth-quarter points as they outscored Loyalist 25-7 in the final ten minutes.
Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) finished the night tied with a game-high 18 points and nine rebounds. The lone double-double of the game went to
Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) who had 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Halliburton and Lawson finished with 18 and 15 points respectively.
Earning the victory was key for Durham as it has them tied for third in the OCAA east region with the Centennial Colts at 18 points. Winning on Wednesday puts them four points ahead of Georgian, St. Lawrence and Loyalist.
It also capped off a positive night of celebration and mental health awareness in front of a crowd of more than 500 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
At halftime of the game the Durham College men's soccer and women's softball OCAA championship teams were honoured and their banners unveiled at centre court. It was the first title for the men's soccer program in 20 years and third straight title for softball – also their record 19
th in OCAA history.
As part of the Bell Let's Talk campaign, the theme of the night was Make Some Noise for Mental Health. Fans were encouraged to bring pots and pans to "make some noise for mental health" and support the Bell Let's Talk movement in raising awareness about mental health.
This was the only game of the week for the men's basketball team who will now travel to Peterborough on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for a 7 p.m. tip off against the Fleming Knights.
