Comeback falls short against undefeated Huskies

Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team erased a 27-point deficit late in the game, taking the lead twice, but it wasn't enough as the undefeated George Brown Huskies picked up the win by a 92-86 score.

The opening quarter was one that was made of nightmares for the Lords after the visiting Huskies put 13 points on the board before Durham could score their first bucket of the game. Things took a quick turn as the Lords spent the second half of the quarter piecing together an early comeback – including an impressive 11-0 run following their first basket.

Trailing 22-17 after the first 10 minutes, the Huskies kept up the pressure and capitalized off Durham mistakes with 23 points off turnovers to widen the gap to double digits. Their lead was 49-36 at the break.

Tianna Sullivan, who leads the Huskies with 17.7 points per game this season, was the star of the show in the half with 17 points.

Durham had their most success in the third quarter – scoring 23 points and holding the Huskies to 22. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Lords were still looking for their first lead of the game but trailing by only 12, the deficit wasn't impossible to close in on.

In the fourth quarter the Lords not only cut the deficit to single digits, but Durham took their first lead of the game with 5:28 left on the clock as the scoreboard read 78-77. The 27-point comeback wasn't enough as the Huskies went on to win 92-86.

Sullivan led the way for the Huskies with a 32-point performance, topping her previous season high of 24 set on Oct. 24 against the Loyalist Lancers.

For the Lords, first-year Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) had her best of game of the season with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a block. The rookie topped 20 points for the second time this season after scoring 20 on Nov. 4 against the Seneca Sting.

Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont.) scored a career-high 18 points on the night, reaching double digits for the second time in her career.

The Lords will have to put this one behind them quickly and turn their focus to Friday night when they host the St. Lawrence Vikings for the second time this season. Durham came out on top 79-60 in their meeting last week.
