Lords extend point streak to four games with win over Colts

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer team earned their third victory of the OCAA regular season and extended their point streak to four games at Vaso's Field on Wednesday night with a 5-1 win over the Centennial Colts.

The first half was mostly scoreless before Nicole Warren put the Colts ahead with the first goal of the game in the 40th minute. Seconds before the final whistle blew for the halftime break, Bailey Colangelo (Whitby, Ont.) found the back of the net to tie it up. By halftime, Durham dominated in shot attempts with 14 to Centennial's two despite having a tied scoreline.

In the 54th minute, Shae-Lynn Young (Oshawa, Ont.) put the Lords ahead with her first career goal. Ten minutes into the half, Durham picked up where they left off offensively and already got out ahead on the shot attempts 4-0.

Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.) gave the Lords a 3-1 lead in the 61st minute with a hard shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Only four minutes later, Madison Haigh (Bowmanville, Ont.) had an incredible opportunity to extend the lead but the goalkeeper got just enough of the ball to punch it over the crossbar.

Hassenstein scored her second goal of the night and team leading fourth of the season in the 73rd minute to increase Durham's lead over the visitors. Her multi-goal evening placed her in the top five among goal scorers in the OCAA to date.

Durham wasn't finished yet until Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) scored her second of the season with an 88th minute goal. When the clock expired, the scoreboard read a 5-1 final score in favour of the home team. The Lords heavily outnumbered Centennial's shot attempts over the course of the entire game 31-5.

The Lords will not have much time to rest as the Seneca Sting come to town on Friday, Sept. 22 with kick-off set for 6 p.m.
