OTTAWA, Ont. – Saturday the Durham College women's soccer team wrapped up their week with a 0-0 draw against the No. 5 ranked Algonquin Thunder.
After falling 2-0 a week ago to the Thunder in Oshawa, the Lords were able to steal a point from the nationally-ranked team. This is the first time Durham has done so since a 2-2 draw on Sept. 27, 2013.
"I'm very happy with the effort during the game," said head coach
Alex Bianchi. "Both teams battled very hard and space and real scoring opportunities were limited for both sides. They are a top team with a long-standing program and today both teams battled very hard."
Durham's best opportunity to score came in the 33
rd minute on a penalty kick after
Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) was taken down in the 18-yard box. Unfortunately,
Madison Haigh's (Bowmanville, Ont.) attempt went just wide of the goal.
Jenna King (Ajax, Ont.) earned the clean sheet in goal for the Lords, making three saves. Kirsten Skinner made eight saves for Algonquin.
The Lords now return home for a pair of home games this week against the Fleming Knights and Seneca Sting. Kick off for the Tuesday and Thursday matches are both set for 6 p.m.
Overall Record: 3-4-1 (W-L-D)
