BELLEVILLE, ONT. – As the postseason inches closer, points are really starting to matter and Friday's are no exception.
 
Both Durham College and the Loyalist Lancer men's basketball teams had 5-5 records going into their final meeting of the season, but at the end of the night it was Loyalist walking away with the 71-61 victory.
 
The loss puts Durham in a three-way tie for seventh in the OCAA east region, one spot out of the playoffs.
 
The Lancers never trailed on the night, leading 18-15 after a quarter and 36-29 at halftime. After three quarters the Lords still only trailed by seven, but Loyalist started the fourth on a 10-0 run to put the game all but out of reach for Durham, who didn't get any closer than nine points to close out the game.
 
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) had a game-high 23 points in the loss for Durham. There were no double-doubles for either team, but Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) was the closest with nine boards and 13 points.
 
On the opposite side of the court, Tyronn King was Loyalist's leading scorer with 18 points. He received support from Carlo Pantaleon and Carter Maschi who scored 13 and 11 respetively.
 
The game's leading rebounder was Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.), who finished with 13 boards.
 
Durham's schedule hasn't been soft to start the second half and it won't get easier as they welcome the second-place Seneca Sting (10-1) on Tuesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
