Sting Hit Century Mark on Opening Night

The reigning National Champions put on a clinic, overwhelming the Georgian Grizzlies 106-56.

Despite losing two starters from last year's championship team, the Sting added a number of key pieces which helped propel the Sting to a dominating opening night win.

With the excitement of unveiling the OCAA and CCAA Championship banners during a pregame ceremony and the anticipation of the student population waiting to see how the 2018-19 team could play, the Sting swarmed the Grizzlies from the opening tip. With a dominant defense, the Sting held a 27-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Jordan Anderson and Isse Ibrahim carried the Sting through the opening half with the duo each reacing double figures (11 and 10 points respectfully). When the halftime buzzer sounded, the Sting led the Grizzlies 54-24.

The Grizzlies played their best quarter of the game in the third, but saw their twenty point production outmatched by the twenty-three points the Sting scored as the home team led 77-44.

With the crowd cheering them on, the Sting showed great ball movement and a stifling defense en route to reaching the century mark.

Transfer Julio Vazquez led the Sting with 21 points including seven three-pointers. Jordan Anderson finished with 15 points. Isse Ibrahim recorded 13 points and Khalil Miller scored 12 points and added 9 rebounds.

Anthony Meggo topped the Grizzlies with 12 points and 4 assists. Tyler Vanessan finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds while Daniel Martyn had 8 points and 6 assists.
