Softball showcases resilience in sweep of Humber

OSHAWA, Ont. – Rallying from early deficits in both games of a Wednesday night doubleheader versus the visiting Humber Hawks, the Durham Lords softball team delivered 8-7 and 5-4 victories to pick up the home sweep. 
 
In the opening 8-7 victory, Durham's Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) was the winning pitcher and once again produced the walk-off single in the seventh inning, to secure the Lords game one win. Bringing the Lords back within reach of the Hawks in the sixth inning was Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, Ont.) who emptied the bases with an inside-the-park home run.
 
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) earned the win from the bump in the second game, scoring an impressive seven strikeouts, while Sarah Seifried (Drayton, Ont.) led the team with three RBI.
 
Durham will now hit the road to challenge the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 and 3 p.m.
  Game 1
  • Kaleigh MacIntyre had an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning, bringing the Lords back to within one run. MacIntyre ended the game 1-for-1 at the plate with three RBI.
  • Ashley Black had her second walk-off of the season bringing in two runs with a single in the seventh inning. Black went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, a walk, and came around to score once on the night.
  • Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.), Kaitlyn Hickey (Oshawa,Ont.), Caleigh Coles (Duncan, B.C.), Alanna Stanoev (Whitby, Ont.), Makyla Morrison (Guelph, Ont.), and Seifried all came around to score.
Game 2
  • Sarah Seifried continues to lead the team with RBI as she added three more with a bases-clearing double in the third inning.
  • Alexis Pereira walked as the leadoff hitter and came around to score both times she was on base.
  Game 1
  • Black pitched a complete game to the tune of seven earned runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out five batters. After allowing the seven runs to score in the first three innings, Black shut down the Hawks to keep the Lords in the game.
  • Humber used three pitchers in Rachel Matheson-Green, Bree Donaldson and Kadyn Wotton. Wotton ultimately was given the loss, allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Game 2
  • Glendinning once again struck out seven batters in her second win of the season. Pitching a complete game, Glendinning had three earned runs on eight hits, while walking one batter out of the 28 total batters faced.
  Overall Record: 5-1
Conference Record: 5-1
