BELLEVILLE, Ont. - Earning their second win of the season, the Durham College men's rugby team defeated the Loyalist Lancers 64-7 in Belleville on Wednesday night.
The convincing victory moves the Lords to 2-1 on the season, allowing them to jump into first place in the OCAAÂ east division at the midway point of the regular season.
Durham was dominant in the opening half, taking a 40-0 lead into the break. Third-year centre
Ty Jacob (Oshawa, Ont.) was the beneficiary of the Lords strong offensive output, recording a first half hat-trick of tries. Two more tries were added by Durham College athlete of the week
Robert Eliadis (Uxbridge, Ont.) and second-year full back
Jordan McGranachan (Ajax, Ont.). McGranachan successfully kicked all five conversions.
The frantic scoring pace continued into the second half for the Lords as five separate players broke through for tries. Jacob,
Zack Bedder (Ajax, Ont.),
Eddie Oliveira (Recife, Brazil),
Daniel Cooper (Uxbridge, Ont.), and
Israel Ogbogu (Toronto, Ont.) all found the try zone. McGranachan added two more conversions to round out the scoring for the Lords.
Durham will next return home to Thompson Rugby Park where they will look to continue their winning ways against the visiting Fleming Knights. The Friday, Oct. 5 match is scheduled to kick-off at 5 p.m.
