Lords keep it competitive with Coyotes

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's volleyball team fell in straight sets versus La Cité Coyotes on Saturday afternoon in Ottawa. Set scores for the match were 22-25, 17-25, 21-25.

Durham faced stiff competition in the second match of their two-game Ottawa road trip as La Cité now sit second in the OCAA east division with a 9-2 record this season. Despite looking like a mismatch based on standings, the Lords matched the Coyotes throughout all three sets of action, including a fast start in the second set which saw DC break out to a quick 4-0 lead.

Still chasing their first win of 2019, the Lords will look to achieve it in front of a boisterous crowd as they return home to compete against the Georgian Grizzlies on Thursday, Jan. 24 in the annual Pots & Pans game. First serve for the night is scheduled for 8 p.m.
  • Team scoring leader Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) topped the Lords on the afternoon with six kills for six points.
• Combining for eight points up front for Durham was Dalton Halligan (Cobourg, Ont.) and James Hirt (Scarborough, Ont.), with Halligan notching four kills and Hirt scoring three along with a service ace.
• Three Coyotes reached double-digit points led by Michel Leblanc and Alexandre Huard who each recorded 12.
  • The Lords struggled to fin their offence as fourth-year setter Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) was limited to just 12 assists on the afternoon.
• Defensively, Halligan led Durham with six digs.
• Xavier Demers totalled 24 assists in the three set win, while libero Mikael Gareau registered a game-high 12 digs.
