Lords settle for point against Sting

OSHAWA, Ont. – After a slow start to a tense match, two second half goals helped the Durham College men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie at home against the Seneca Sting.

Seneca opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Alhashan Robah scored a half-volley from a free kick.

The Lords found it difficult to break the Sting down in the first half. Seneca out shot Durham 7-3 heading into the break with the lead.

Durham replied four minutes into the second half when Nigel Buckley (Ajax, Ont.) crossed the ball to Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) who tapped it home from six yards out.

The Lords took the lead in the 54th minute when Colin Reilly (Whitby, Ont.) swung in a nice cross and Matthew Morris (Ajax, Ont.) headed home for his second of the night.

Just moments later the Sting equalized when Al-Hussein Robah converted on a penalty kick to bring Seneca level.

Buckley came close to giving the Lords the lead, but his shot was turned aside in the final five minutes by a Seneca defender.

The Lords showed lots of late pressure and out shot Seneca 10-9 in the second half, but were unable to find a winner and settled for a point.

Durham now travel to face the Centennial Colts on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 8:15 p.m.
