Box Score NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team will be heading into the OCAA playoffs on a winning note after picking up a 3-1 road victory over the Seneca Sting Wednesday night.
Set scores in the match were 22-25, 25-20, 25-11 and 25-19.
If the Lords hope to qualify for the OCAA championship for the sixth straight year, they will have to pick up another victory on the road when they take on the Niagara Knights in the crossover round on Sunday, Feb. 18.
Durham (9-9) ended the year with a pair of wins to finish in fifth place in the OCAA east region standings. Niagara (10-8) is hot as of late going 3-1 in February but have struggled at home with an overall record of 4-5. This will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
In Wednesday's win over Seneca,
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) finished the night with a game-high 16 kills. The graduating senior ends his career with 833 points, the most of any student-athlete in program history.
Secondary scoring came from the middle as
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) and
Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) had 11 and nine kills respectively.
Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) paced the offence with 43 assists and was also strong defensively with nine digs.
David Lazarev would end up leading Seneca with 13 kills, but was not efficient as it came on 43 attempts.
The winner on Sunday will qualify for the OCAA championship that is set to take place in Barrie from Feb. 22-24, hosted by Georgian College. The Lords are the defending OCAA silver medalists.
