OSHAWA, Ont. – It took a while for Durham bats to come alive on Wednesday night at Christie Pits but when they did, the Lords could not be stopped as they picked up two big wins over the George Brown Huskies.
With 13-2 and 18-0 victories, Durham swept the season series 4-0 outscoring the Huskies 72-9.
George Brown jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and held on to that lead until the top of the fifth. The Lords would put up three runs in the inning followed by eight more in the sixth to completely turn the tables. Durham would tack on two more runs in the top half of the seventh inning to pick up the 13-2 victory.
The Lords eight run outburst in the sixth inning was highlighted by a
Brendon Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) bases clearing triple. Dadson finished the night going 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs.
Five Lords batters including Dadson had a multi-hit game.
Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) was 3-for-4 with one run and an RBI while
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.),
Jack Rankin (Orillia, Ont.) and
Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.) all had two hits apiece.
Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) had three runs scored in the win.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) pitched the complete game allowing one earned run off of three hits. After allowing two runs in the first, the Huskies had trouble solving the hard-throwing righty as he struck out nine.
Game two was pretty much over after the top half of the second inning when Durham put up 13 runs on the board. The Lords would go on to add two more in the third and three more in the fourth to mercy George Brown 18-0 after five innings.
Travis Doyle (Grimsby, Ont.) pitched the complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and one hit batter on base.
Veteran
Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) went yard as he had a four RBI night going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored.
Kadeev Bembridge (Whitby, Ont.),
Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) and
Tristan Willcocks (Whitby, Ont.) all had three-hit games combining for seven RBIs and six runs scored.
Durham (7-3) is level with Fanshawe (6-2) for second place in the OCAA standings. Durham will be put to the test this weekend as they host the first place St. Clair Saints (8-0) on Saturday followed by Fanshawe on Sunday.
Due to the Pastime USA showcase tournament taking place in the Durham Region over the weekend, the Lords home games have been moved to the Whitby Iroquois Sports Complex.
