SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College men's volleyball team went the distance on Wednesday night against the Centennial Colts, ultimately falling 3-2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-16, 27-25, 12-15).
Heading to Scarborough, the Lords have had a slow start to 2018 after failing to win a set at the Mohawk exhibition tournament and being swept in two conference games.
Things continued to look down for the Lords after dropping the first two sets to the hosts, but the Lords picked up a win in the third set.
Looking to hang on and force a tiebreaker set, the fourth frame was forced to extra points, but Durham came out on top 27-25. The Colts squeezed out a 15-12 win in the final set to defeat the visiting Lords.
Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) dominated on both sides of the net with 23 kills, 12 digs, an ace and a block. Janssen set a season high for digs with 12 (previously seven on Nov. 26 vs. La Cité) and his 23 kills ties his season-high which was also set on Nov. 26 against La Cité.
Rory Langley (Uxbridge, Ont.) topped 40 assists for the fourth time this season as he reached 42 tonight.
Durham will look forward to Saturday, Jan. 27 as they try to bring their record back above .500 against the Algonquin Thunder at the CRWC. The conclusion of their match in Ottawa (currently tied 1-1) will be played at 4 p.m., followed by their regularly scheduled match at approximately 8 p.m.
