BARRIE, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team outlasted the Georgian Grizzlies for a 45-43 victory on Wednesday night to open their OCAA regular season.
At halftime the two teams were tied 21-21, but Durham won the third quarter 14-13 and edged the Grizzlies by one point again in the fourth quarter, 10-9, to pick up the two-point win.
Returning guard
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) led the Lords with a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.), who is also a returning starter, added 12 points and five rebounds.
Georgian's Erial Barnard was the game's top scorer with 20 points for the Grizzlies. Teammate Mikaela Weir had a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards in the Georgian loss.
Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) led all Durham freshmen with six points, while adding six rebounds.
The Lords will now prepare for their trip to Toronto on Saturday to face the George Brown Huskies at 1 p.m. The Huskies opened their season on Tuesday night with an 85-64 loss to Loyalist in Belleville.
