Balanced offence lifts Lords to victory over Sting

OSHAWA, Ont. – In a crucial game as conference play winds down, the Durham College women's basketball team had a positive team effort as they knocked off the Seneca Sting 64-57 on Tuesday night.

Seneca relied on Taylor Allicock's offence to carry the team as she had nearly half of her team's scoring with 26 points.

The Lords, on the other hand, had three players in double-digit scoring – their leader only having 13 in the game.

With the victory Durham College is now tied with George Brown for second in the OCAA east region, although the Huskies have a game in hand. The Lords are four points back of the first-place Algonquin Thunder, but can possibly make a move up the standings as their final conference games are against both the Thunder and Huskies.

Unfortunately for the Lords, the Huskies have a game remaining against the 3-11 Georgian Grizzlies, which has the probability of keeping George Brown out of the Lords reach in the standings.

Durham's next game is Sunday, Feb. 10 at George Brown before returning home on Sunday, Feb. 17 to host the Algonquin Thunder in their final conference game.
  • Coming off her first career triple-double, Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, Ont.) finished just three assists shy of back-to-back triple-doubles for the Lords. Stasiuk had a team-high 13 points and 14 rebounds, alongside seven assists.
Victoria Brody (Scarborough, Ont.) and Dekota Kirby (Markham, Ont.) finished with 10 points apiece for the Lords, the only other Durham players in double-digit scoring.
• Of note, every player that stepped on the court for the Lords scored at least one basket and in the battle of the benches Durham bench outscored Seneca 28-8.
• Talyer Allicock finished with a game-high 26 points to lead the Seneca Sting, while Brianna-Mae Clough was the only double-digit scorer with 10.
  • Durham College and Seneca were neck-and-neck in the rebound department, with the Lords holding only a 45-41 advantage.
• Shyhein Cousins had a game-high 16 boards for the Seneca Sting.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) and Keisha Arthurworrey (Oshawa, Ont.) had seven boards each, trailing only Stasiuk in the rebound department.
  Overall Record: 16-7
Conference Record: 11-4

Next game: Sunday, Feb. 10 @ George Brown Huskies • 1 p.m. - Toronto, Ont.
