Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team earned their eighth win of the season with an 86-61 victory over the visiting Algonquin Thunder on senior's night.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Lords less than 15 seconds into the game – her first of 22 points in the game. After a back-and-forth opening ten minutes, Durham led 17-16.
Durham widened the gap with a dominant second quarter to lead 45-25 at the halftime break. Outscoring the Thunder 28-9 in the second quarter,
Jaslin Khera (Montreal, Que.) led the offence with eight points in the quarter.
Both teams had double digit scorers in the half with
Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) scoring ten as did her opponent Ashley Proulx for Algonquin.
After three quarters of play, the Lords held a commanding 75-43 lead thanks to a 30-point performance by the Durham offence in only ten minutes of play.
The fourth quarter was the lone frame in which Algonquin outscored the hosts, but it wasn't enough as the Lords rolled past the Thunder for an 86-61 win to improve to .500 in the standings.
Durham sweeps the season series against Algonquin after a 92-48 victory in Ottawa earlier in the season. The Lords have won four of the last five meetings against the Thunder dating back to Oct. 21, 2016.
With this win, the Lords leapfrog over Loyalist and sit fourth place in the OCAA east region standings with one game remaining in conference play, which will take place on Tuesday night in Scarborough against the Centennial Colts.
