MEN’S RUGBY FALL TO ST. LAWRENCE WILL PLAY FOR BRONZE
The Grizzlies suffered their first loss of the season in the OCAA semi-final game 28-24 to the St. Lawrence Vikings on Saturday.
The Georgian Grizzlies men's rugby team hosted the St. Lawrence Vikings in an OCAA semi-final match on Saturday afternoon at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.
The Grizzlies got off to a great start with Donovan Jacko (Brampton) scoring the opening try less than five minutes into the game. James Hulbert (Aurora) followed with a convert and a penalty kick a few minutes later putting Georgian up 10-0.
Following that the visiting Vikings turned the game in their favour, grinding away at the Grizzlies scoring 28 unanswered points with tries from William Fellows (Kingston), Elias Pickell (Edmonton) and Alexander Vasco (Kingston).
Georgian made an incredible late push in the final few minutes with tries from Henry Do (Brampton) and Josh Michalik (Barrie) but the comeback came up short as St. Lawrence claimed victory 28-24.
It was the first loss for the Grizzlies in the last two seasons, snapping a stretch of 14 straight regular season and playoff wins.
The Grizzlies will now play in the OCAA bronze medal game which they will host on Saturday, Nov. 11 at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie Campus. Tickets for the final game of the season will be available at the door for $10.
