Falcons Split Twin Bill Against Durham

(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Falcons Men's Baseball team (1-3) split games on Sunday afternoon at Labatt Park against the Durham Lords (2-2). Fanshawe defeated the Lords 3-2 in extra innings before falling 7-0 in game two.

 

In game one, the Falcons got on the board first with a single by Kevin Bowden (London, ON) scoring Darren Dwyer (West Montrose, ON). In the top of the fifth inning, Fanshawe rookie pitcher Noah Campagnolo (Guelph, ON) had three straight strikeouts to keep the Lords scoreless. In the top of the sixth, Durham scored two to take the lead 2-1. The Falcons responded with a double to right field by Dwyer, scoring Matt Bowden (London, ON) to tie it up 2-2. The teams would both go scoreless in the seventh, forcing extra innings. In the eighth inning, Falcons pitcher Stephen Barclay (Markham, ON) struck out the side to give the home team a chance to put the game away. A sacrifice bunt from Fanshawe's Josh Hare (St. Thomas, ON) moved Jake Watters (Cottam, ON) to third base. Matt Bowden then executed a squeeze bunt that scored Watters to claim the Falcons' first victory of the 2018 season. The winning pitcher for the Falcons was Barclay (1-0) and Eric Beharri (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Durham.

 

The Falcons struggled to score in the second game of the doubleheader and fell to the Lords 7-0. The losing pitcher for Fanshawe was Dwyer (0-1), while Jake Legros (1-0) pitched a complete game in the win for the Lords. The Falcons' next regular season contest will be on the road in Toronto on Friday, September 14, when they will face the Seneca Sting (1-1).
