LANCERS LOSE BATTLE WITH VIKINGS

The Lancers' men's rugby team dropped a hard fought 31-0 battle against the St. Lawrence Vikings at home Wednesday night.

The game got off to a great start with both teams working hard to break the line. A back and fourth first half saw the game tied at zeros with only minutes to go when the Vikings finally broke through the Lancer defence and scored the first try of the game. After the seconed half, the Vikings made quick work of scoring and added back to back tries to go up 17-0. 

Despite the score, the Lancers regrouped and continued to play with grit and determination. Second year Lancer Thomas Paul (Haliburton, ON) came through for the Lancers in a big way, including an impressive run that fell just short of scoring and getting the home team on the board. On two other occasions the Lancers were within scoring range but couldn't quite make the final push to get through to the end zone.

Logan Lindsay, a first year Customs & Border Services student, stepped up in the wake of his teammate's injuries and played a vital role in game. Making key tackles at crucial time, Lindsay's aggression and work ethic proved to be a major factor in the team's improvement throughout the match. Turning in one of his best performances of the season, the 5'6 centre from Trenton, ON showed off just how much potential lies within the team.

Head Coach Kyle Ripley is knows there is still work to be done, but is happy with the improvements he is seeing. "The boys are believing in our process and even though we didn't win, we left the field with huge gains and a new confidence. Some of our first year players stepped up and performaed their best yet. All that said, it's time to get back to work to get better so we can compete for a win against Durham next week."
