OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team is off to a hot start in the new year as they earned their second win of 2018 against the Georgian Grizzlies Tuesday night. The Lords swept the Grizzlies 3-0 thanks to a great team effort.
The Lords got off to a rocky start, trailing for most of the first set but were able to bounce back with the 25-22 win.
The second set looked a lot differently for the Lords as they dominated the whole way to another 25-20 win.
The Grizzlies did not make it an easy sweep for the Lords as both teams battled back and forth for the lead in the final set. The Lords were able to rally as a team throughout the whole night and proved to be unstoppable, winning the final set 25-23.
Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) lead the Lords' offence with 33 assists to go along with three digs and two kills.
The backcourt had a strong outing with
Devyn Fraser (Uxbridge, Ont.) recording 13 digs and
Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) with eight. Joensen also put up 10 kills on the night to help elevate the Lords offence.
Allyson Terwillegar (Eniskillen, Ont.) seemed to be able to do it all, helping out in the back court with 10 digs, while also recording eight kills, three aces and one block.
Sarah Rayment (Whitby, Ont.) had a great night all around with seven kills and five digs.
The Lords will look to increase their win streak to three as they hit the road to play the Centennial Colts on Wednesday night. Centennial is coming off a five-game win streak and both teams will be fighting for the third place spot in the east region.
