(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Women's Basketball team (20-4) fell to the top team in the nation, the host Humber Hawks (23-0) on Sunday evening by a final score of 69-54 in the Final of the OCAA Provincial Championship.

The Falcons had a tough start, falling behind early in the game 26-8, as they were unable to generate much offense in the first quarter. In the second frame, Ali Vlasman (Mount Elgin, ON) had a pair of strong takes to the rim to get Fanshawe back on track. Unfortunately, the Hawks matched the Falcons intensity and held a 39-21 half time lead. Fanshawe's resiliency showed in the third quarter, as they used great defense and excellent free throw shooting to stay within reach. Claire Dechet (Sarnia, ON) hit a jumper for the Falcons, followed by a layup from Mikhaila Wright (London, ON). Fanshawe outscored Humber 19-13 in the third quarter and closed the Hawks lead to 12. Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't get any closer. Despite Fanshawe outscoring Humber 46-43 over the final three quarters, the early deficit proved too much to overcome and the Hawks went on to win 69-54.

Chuot Angou (London, ON) was named Fanshawe's Player of the Game in the final with 13 points. Vlasman, playing in the final OCAA game of her five year career, finished as the Falcons top scorer with 20 points and added 10 rebounds. Fanshawe shot 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the charity stripe. Wright and Vlasman were named OCAA Tournament All-Stars for their outstanding play during the three-game tournament.
