SCARBOROUGH, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer team scored early and often in their 6-1 defeat of the Centennial Colts on Friday night.
Milinda Roblero (Pickering, Ont.) scored the first of her two goals in the match in the 15
th minute.
Cory Lapointe (Whitby, Ont.) then scored back-to-back goals for the Lords in the 22
nd and 37
th minutes to give Durham College a commanding 3-0 lead, which held until half.
Lais Rios gave life to the Colts early in the second half as she scored on their first shot of the match in the 50
th minute over Durham goalkeeper
Jayden Ball (Oshawa, Ont.).
That momentum was quickly erased after
Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.) broke free and tapped the ball into a wide-open net off a wonderful cross in the 72
nd minute.
Arguably the goal of the night came in the 75th minute as Mackenzie Barry (Ajax, Ont.) took a right footed strike from 40 feet out that hit off the post and just past the goal line to make it 5-1.
Roblero capped off the night with her second of the night in the 84
th minute.
With the victory the Lords improved to 4-3-2 and are now four points up on the St. Lawrence Vikings for third in the OCAA east region.
They face those same Vikings next Friday in their final home game of the season. Kick off is 6 p.m. at Vaso's Field. From there the Lords travel to Belleville to face the Loyalist Lancers and wrap up the season in Peterborough against the Fleming Knights on October 18.
