TORONTO, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team's season opener did not go the way they had envisioned as they dropped a 76-59 decision to the Seneca Sting Tuesday night.
A slow start would haunt Durham as the Sting led 17-8 after 10 minutes. Despite coming out strong early in the second quarter, the scoreline at the end of the half did not reflect the Lords' effort as they trailed 40-26. The end of the half summed up Durham's night as it was highlighted by a Seneca 3-pointer with seconds left on the clock.
Seneca would put it in cruise control the rest of the game as they led 66-41 after three quarters and 76-59 at the final buzzer.
Durham's offence was spread out as
Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.),
Jeremiah Braham (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) all hit double-digits in scoring with 14, 13 and 12 points respectively.
Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, Ont.) led Durham in rebounds with seven.
Khalil Miller and Malik Young were the leading scorers for the Sting scoring 18 and 16 points apiece.
Durham will look to rebound in their home opener that is set for Thursday, Nov. 3 against the Georgian Grizzlies. Tip-off at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre is 8 p.m.
