OSHAWA, Ont. – Winning streaks were on a collision course Friday night at the CRWC, as the Durham Lords men's basketball team put their six-game roll on the line against the Georgian Grizzlies, who were aiming for their fourth in a row.
It was the Lords eventually getting the last laugh as they earned the 78-68 victory.
In the battle of two evenly-matched squads, the lead flip-flopped throughout the first-half, with the Lords trailing by a single point at halftime.
In the second half, every shot was critical, every possession perhaps the one that would turn the tide, but neither team could sustain enough offense to put distance between their opponent. Finally, in the fourth, Durham's endurance came into play and the hosts slowly started to pull away.
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) provided a key steal at the top of the key, which resulted in a fast-break that upped the cushion to 10 points.
This coming Tuesday the Lords face a major hurdle in the first-place Seneca Sting. In their last encounter, the Lords fell 107-45. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
