Lords sweep Sting to take top spot in OCAA standings

NORTH YORK, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team has taken over top spot in the OCAA as they prepare to travel to Saskatchewan this week to attend the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) national championship.
 
Durham's wins of 7-5 and 10-1 help them build towards the annual championship, which they qualified for as 2017 OCAA champions.
 
Just a year ago in Ottawa, the Lords lost the bronze medal game to the Regina Cougars – their best result since winning silver in 2012.
 
They open this weekend on Friday at 11 a.m. local time against the host Saskatchewan Huskies, with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday afternoon.
 
Their final conference doubleheader before the OCAA championship is Friday, Oct. 12 in Hamilton against the Mohawk Mountaineers.
  Game 1
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.) was 3-for-5 to lead the Lords with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored.
• Pitcher Andrea Patrick (Whitby, Ont.) also did her part at the plate going 3-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and run scored.
• Seneca's pitcher Chantel Gendron also had a strong performance at the plate, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 
Game 2
Kaitlyn Hickey (Oshawa, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, RBI and three runs scored to lead the Lords offence.
Alexis Pereira hit her second triple of the night, going 2-for-5 for the Lords with a run scored.
• Alyssa Jansen was 2-for-3 and had the RBI for the Sting, hitting a home run.
  Game 1
Andrea Patrick earned the complete game victory, allowing three earned runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out career-high six batter.
• Chantel Gendron had her best outing against the Lords this year, pitching another complete game. She allowed six earned runs on 12 hits and four walks. Gendron had five strikeouts.
 
Game 2
Ashley Black continues to rack up the wins, earning her ninth of the season in a complete game victory. She allowed one earned run on three hits and a walk, while striking out 10.
• Amanda Van de Graaf took the loss for the Sting, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits and four walks. She struck out one Lord.
  Overall Record: 16-6
Conference Record: 16-6
