Women's volleyball sweeps pair to run winning streak to 3

OAKVILLE, Ont. - After dropping the first five sets of their season's second half, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (14-7, 8-5 OCAA) have now reeled off nine-straight set and three-straight match wins, following a pair of sweeps against Conestoga and Redeemer.

"It was nice to pick up two wins this weekend," head coach Scott Hunt said. "We played a very clean game last night [against Conestoga] and had a sloppier performance today against Redeemer, but we were able to battle through it and found a way to win. It will give us a little bit of breathing room and a boost of confidence as we head into a difficult stretch of our schedule."

They made quick work of Conestoga Friday, with set scores of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-11.

Against Redeemer, they closed the opening set on a 10-4 run to claim a 25-16 win and then opened the second frame on a 7-0 run.

Redeemer trimmed the margin to three, with the Bruins in front 11-8, but the Double Blue made the most of their early cushion and won the set 25-20.

The visitors jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the third, but Sheridan battled back, took the lead midway through the set, and never looked back in closing out the match 25-20.

They will face a stern test in their final home match of the season, hosting Fanshawe (11-1) on Jan. 24 (6pm).
