OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's soccer team kept the ball rolling Friday night as they recorded their second conference win of the season, finishing with a final score of 2-1 over the Fleming Knights.
Early in the match Lords goalkeeper,
Jayden Ball (Oshawa, Ont.), received a red card for stepping out of her box and playing the ball with her hands. As a result Durham was forced to play with only ten players instead of their full squad of eleven as
Shae-Lynn Young (Oshawa, Ont.) coming in goal in relief.
The Lords were able to rally around their goalkeeper as freshman
Erin Kappel (Ajax, Ont.) recorded her first goal in OCAA play coming in the 55th minute.
Natassha Hassenstein (Oshawa, Ont.), another rookie for Durham, scored her second goal of the season in the 77th minute on a great solo effort to put Durham ahead by two.
In the 85th minute of play the Fleming Knights started to show some strength as Kristine Whiston was able to find the back of the net. The Knights had a few more chances near the end of the match but the Lords were able to hold them off for the win.
The victory now puts Durham at 2-1-0 on the season as they look ahead to Saturday's match in Kingston against the St. Lawrence Vikings. Kick off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
