Box Score TORONTO, Ont. – The Durham College men's soccer team ended the host George Brown Huskies season in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday, as the Lords defeated the Huskies 4-3 in extra time to courtesy of a last-second goal by
Ryan Cullen (Pickering, Ont.).
Nate Paine (Whitby, Ont.) opened the scoring just a minute and a half into the game, sneaking behind the Huskies defence to give the Lords the early advantage.
Thirty minutes later the Huskies Jacob Yankey equalized after a beautiful run up the middle of the field resulted in a George Brown tally. Streaking alongside striker Filipe Vilela, Yankey snuck past two Lords defenders to knot things up at one apiece.
Still tied up early in the second, OCAA player of the year Filipe Vilela scored his 15th goal of the season to give George Brown their first lead of the tournament. It was short-lived, as
Jeremy Bangala (Pickering, Ont.) found the ball in a scramble out front and managed to bury one in the 61st minute.
No more goals were scored in regulation, sending the match into extra time. Zuheib Mohamed made an incredible move in the early going, juking around two Lords defenders and putting the finishing touch on a pretty goal to go up 3-2.
The Lords would answer shortly thereafter, as captain
Cody Kraemer (Whitby, Ont.) took advantage of a free-kick from just outside the box, sending a laser that snuck just past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Jordan Sodhi.
In the final seconds of extra time, the Lords earned a corner kick.
Ryan Cullen (Pickering, Ont.) planted himself firmly in the penalty box, and somehow the ball wound up on his foot through traffic - he made no mistake. The clock expired at kick off, for final score 4-3 in the Lords favour.
The Lords will now face the University of Toronto – Mississauga (UTM) Eagles in the consolation final tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Esther Shiner Stadium in Toronto.
