Late bucket sinks Durham

Box Score KINGSTON, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team could not come up with a defensive rebound when they needed to the most as the St. Lawrence Vikings pulled off an 82-81 victory over the Lords.

After Alyssa Navarro (Oshawa, Ont.) hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the game to give Durham an 81-80 lead, the Lords were looking for a defensive stop to pick up their seventh win of the year.

The Lords defence forced up contested shots but could not come up with a rebound as St. Lawrence eventually scored on a fourth shot attempt with three seconds to go. Durham failed to get off a quality shot as time expired with the Vikings earning their sixth win.

The Lords (6-8) are now in a three-way tie for fourth place with the Vikings (6-7) and Algonquin Thunder (6-9) with 12 points apiece in the OCAA east region standings.

Maddie Dender (Ajax, Ont.) had a game-high 25-point performance while Victoria Brody (Scarborough, Ont.) had 15 for Durham.

Despite the loss, Durham edged out the Vikings in the season series two games to one.

Durham's next action is on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre when they face the winless Georgian Grizzlies. Tip off is 6 p.m.
