OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's volleyball team rallied a ruckus crowd behind a hard fought second set victory, but would fall short dropping a 3-1 decision in their home opener versus the visiting Algonquin Thunder. Set scores for the contest were 18-25, 25-23, 13-25, 21-25.
Both the Lords and Thunder struggled to find their footing in the early season matchup, combining for 30 errors and 35 service errors.
During the exciting second set, third-year middle
Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) brought the home crowd to their feet with two huge back-to-back blocks to pick up the tightly contested set victory.
The Lords now prepare for the La Cite Coyotes who they face tomorrow afternoon at the CRWC. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. with all the action being streamed live and on demand via the
Durham Lords Network.
• Fourth-year outside hitter
Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) was the lone Lords player to reach double-digit points, notching five kills, two service aces and three blocks on the night.
• Second-year high-flyer
Aaron Banga (Oshawa, Ont.) recorded nine points from four kills, one service ace and four blocks.
• The Thunder were led by Richard Bucar who finished with a game-high 17 points from eight kills, one service ace and eight blocks.
• Veteran setter
Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) paced the Lords attack with 11 assists.
• Algonquin setters Jackie Nguyen and Nicolas Vannieuwenhuizen recorded 15 and 12 assists, respectively.
• Thunder libero Craig Dufresne registered a team-high 26 digs defensively.
