Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Durham College Sports Information

Lords valiant effort falls short

OSHAWA, Ont. - A fifth and deciding set was within their reach, but after some unfortunate bounces, the Durham Lords men's volleyball team came up short, falling three sets to one to the visiting Canadore Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

While the Lords record stands at 1-8 at the holiday break, their play as of late has been on the upswing. On Nov. 22, Fleming required extra points to edge them in the fourth set, before they then dropped a five-set heartbreaker to George Brown, and now, in a back-and-forth battle they nearly went the distance with Canadore. Despite the wins being hard to come by, the Lords are proving themselves tough competition, making their opponents earn every point and fighting wire-to-wire.

After the holiday break, the Lords will head out on the road for the Niagara Knights Invitational on Friday, Jan. 4. Conference play then resumes  on Friday, Jan. 11 when Durham visits Belleville to play the Loyalist Lancers.
  • Durham's Tyler Krabi (Stouffville, Ont.) and Lucas Pichl (Cobourg, Ont.) led the team with seven kills apiece. Krabi ended the night with a team-high 13 points adding three service aces and three blocks, while Pichl registered 12 points with one service ace and four blocks.
• Excelling at the service line, first-year middle Caleb Brinckman (Colborne, Ont.) had his best match of the season nailing three service aces, one block and four kills for eight points.
• Jackson Brear was the sniper for Canadore, ringing up a game-high 13 kills, while Ryan Carnevale dominated the net with an impressive 11 blocks.
Kyler Woodburne (Bowmanville, Ont.) captained the Lords offense, contributing 25 assists.
• The Lords Mitchell Hallett (Oshawa, Ont.) and Jacob Haslam (Whitby, Ont.) tied for the team-lead with eight digs apiece.
• Cameron Daniels was the Panthers playmaker, earning a game-high 34 assists, while four different players recorded double-digit digs defensively.
  Overall Record: 2-15
Conference Record: 1-8

Next game: Friday, Jan. 11 vs. Loyalist Lancers • 8 p.m. – Belleville, Ont.
