Grizzlies rugby open with big win on new sports field
Georgian's men's rugby team opened the season with a 44-8 victory over Sheridan
It was a day to celebrate for Georgian Athletics as the grand opening of a brand new state-of-the-art sports field on the Georgian College Barrie campus took place on Tuesday afternoon.
Following the ceremonies, the Grizzlies men's rugby team had a "grand opening" of their own to kick-off the first game of their 2016 OCAA regular season against the Sheridan Bruins.
Rookie Liam Fowler opened the scoring with a try just two minutes into the contest to set the tone and the Grizzlies rolled from there.
Georgian scored five unanswered times in the first half that led to an eventual 44-8 win.
Edwin Sarfo was a dominate force scoring two tries and adding two converts to post a team high 14 points.
The Grizzlies also had tries from Robin Calamatta, Lucas Cunningham, Justin Elwood, Shawn Israilov and Tyler McRae.
Georgian are last year's reigning OCAA silver medalists and will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they host the Conestoga Condors at the Georgian Sports Field.
